The real-life exploits of John Wayne Gacy far outstrip in terms of horror any film or any similar type of suspense or thriller celluloid, so it only makes sense that there should be a film made detailing Jason Moss’ look into Gacy’s life and crime. For those not familiar with Moss, ey was a student of criminology (related to criminal justice), and attempted to provide some sort of look into one of the most depraved killers in modern times.

Gacy’s interaction with Moss seems to have Moss drug through a number of increasingly-odd tasks, whether it be on the phone or finally in person. To properly get Gacy’s attention, Moss makes eirself a target. Whether by working out or even paying a male prostitute to find out just the right things to say to Gacy, Moss’ commitment to eir data gathering is impressive. After finally getting Gacy’s approval, Moss is able to probe deeply into Gacy’s psyche. The film does a great job in showing the game that is played by both sides; while it does seem as if Moss gets the last laugh, Gacy’s evil mind leaves an indelible imprint even after eir execution.

This thrilling film is headed by Jesse Moss (Final Destination 3) as Jason and William Forscythe (The Rock). Keeping the film chronologically accurate is no small feat, with director Svetozar Ristovski doing just that. All sides of the cast turn in realistic and believable performances, while Anchor Bay’s Blu-Ray of the film provides viewers with an amazing video print and audio track. To further flesh out this release, “The Gacy Files: Portrait of a Serial Killer” gives the cast and crew (along with those that were friends or otherwise knew him) time to muse about the real Gacy.
