It is not surprising that that the gamer collective was a little bit scared about the new Back to the Future game. The last time a gamemaker tried to make a console title based on these classic films was the LJN title for the NES, and it was bad beyond words. However, the much more talented Telltale Games has crafted a gaming experience for the Wii, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. The fact that Bob Gale (the series’ co-creator) was intimately involved with the game should provide ample evidence that the title has its chops.

There is an old-school feel to this title because of its overall genre; the maneuvering of Marty around the environment to puzzle solve and find other clues reminds me of games like Myst. The voice work during the game is absolutely stellar, matching up representations with the actual actors from the trilogy. The amount of time that players will have to invest in to the different episodes of Back to the Future – The Game is substantial, with each episode taking a solid five or six hours to conquer. What results in this compilation then is a day-plus of gaming, conducted as players’ minds continue to spin.

I would personally love to see Telltale’s take on the actual events that took place in the trilogy. On the other hand, I would love to see the storyline present in the game be filmed at the earliest convenience. Back to the Future – The Game is a perfect title to be included in a stocking or as a birthday present. This is especially true given its price (a hair under $20) – I know I will be playing the title as it continues to get colder.
