There is a blending of two distinct film styles with Loups = Garous, a film adaptation of a novel by Natsuhiko Kyogoku. On the one hand, there is a certain dark aspect that pervades all sections of the movie, but there also seems to be a more time-tested children’s adventure present here. What makes Loups = Garous so good is how the story, art design, and voice work marries these two distinct sides together. While I feel that the story could have been fleshed out further (if this was a show rather than a film), I feel that the story that is told here is absolutely impressive. There is an otherworldly feel to this film that makes the world covered one distinctly different from our own.

Where a film can rely on stable characters just fine, I feel that the dynamism of characters like Ayumi or Hazuki showcase exactly what is done in this film. Characters ambitions change as their situations change; this insertion of real life to this feature makes for a more fulfilling story. For every bit of science fiction that is brought into Loups = Garous, there is a decidedly traditional feel that permeates the scenes. It is this blend of old and new, traditional and modern that gives the film such a unique flair. Murder, intrigue, hacking – all are tremendously interesting tropes that are joined together to make for something that should not be missed.

While we provided a review of the DVD version of Loups = Garous, there is also a Blu-Ray version available. If one would like to have a perfect stocking stuffer or birthday gift, I cannot think of a better fit. Check out Loups = Garous today.
