If Brooklyn has seemed a bit quiet lately, it’s probably because Brooklyn-via-San Fran post-punk progenitors Weekend have been on a national tour this autumn with Disappears. Following the summer release of their roaring, critically-acclaimed sophomore album Jinx (7/23, Slumberland Records), bandmates Shaun Durkan (vocals, bass), Kevin Johnson (guitar), Abe Pedroza (drums) and Nick Ray (bass) are back in the ‘hood, turning up the volume in BK for three live shows at CMJ 2013. The band’s live show is equal parts electricity and beauty – pounding rhythms and dark post-punk vibes shoved through a shoegaze filter and glossed over with honey-sweet melodies and Shaun’s distant, wailing vocals. Next month Shaun, Kevin, Abe & Nick are heading overseas for November shows in Zurich, Switzerland, Munich, Germany, London, UK and more with San Francisco metal band Deafheaven. |
