A. Billi Free’s Love, Music & Salad is a short track (it does not hit the 2:30 mark) but contains so much in the course of its run time that it has a much more epic feel than one may feel is possible with songs of this length. The track immediately draws fans in with a backing beat that calls back to the horrorcore and gangster rap of the 1990s, while the flow is something wholly unique. A. Billi Free’s intricate word play does more than tell a story – it provides a bit of additional melody to an already complex track. This is poetry and far exceeds what one will typically consider a rap track able to do. Imagine all of the early-oughts Rhymesayers performers mixed up with equal amounts of Big Pun and Naughty by Nature. There is a seamless retelling of the last twenty years of the art form, done in a way that ensures that Love, Music & Salad will easily garner rotation play throughout any rap, alternative, or collegiate radio station.

The track is able to take a bit of different inspiration and make the resulting effort into something cohesive and coherent. The desire to blend rap and food is something that has been done previously by performers like Action Bronson, but I do believe that this may be the first time that the healthier side of things is covered. While we were not familiar with A. Billi Free before this single, we are confident that anything additional to come down the pipeline from this performer will be conducted with the same intimacy and smart flow; check out her social media or SoundCloud for additional information and samples of her music.
