It’s every competitive PlayStation gamer’s dream to make it to the big leagues, where they can play their favorite games professionally. For a lot of people, however, it’s going to be a challenge, because being a pro gamer isn’t just about raking in the wins, it’s also about doing what the ordinary person can’t do. Being good at a game isn’t enough. You have to be better at it than a lot of people, and that’s where many will fail, be it because of the lack of talent or that they don’t have enough time for their respective games.

Don’t let those dreams die though, because we’ve made a short summary on how you can start killing it in the PlayStation gaming scene.

1. Diversify Yourself

Unless you’re really good at a particular game already, you’ll probably need to expand the portfolio of games you play in. There are many multiplayer genres for you to choose from that, have a thriving competitive gaming scene. Popular genres that you can start looking into being first-person shooting games like Battlefield or Call of Duty, real-time strategy games like Starcraft 2, multiplayer online battle arenas like DotA 2 or League of Legends, card games like Magic the Gathering or Yu Gi Oh and fighting games like Soulcalibur, Tekken and Street Fighter. Find what you like at and get good at it.

2. Practice

Now we’ve all heard it before: practice makes perfect. Lucky for you though, you don’t need to be perfect to kill it in competitive play, you just need to be better than everyone else, or at least get close enough. While the best way for you to improve is to practice for several hours a day, if you don’t have that kind of time, at least give it your best when you are able to play. Don’t rush improvement. You’ll only end up botching your progress. Take things slow and try to focus on improving your favored style of play.

3. Use Cheats

No, we don’t mean to cheat during online matches. Using cheats while you practice can help you set the right kind of mood for you to play, like a warm-up. If you are new to a certain game, using cheats or guides to familiarize yourself with the mechanics will also jump start your gaming style. If you’re into playing the The Forest, for example, using forest cheats can help you get through the tough early stages of the game to help you plan and strategize the later stages for your next playthroughs.

4. Dedicate Yourself

Living the gamer life is hard. You’ll be facing a lot of challenges, mostly the ones you set yourself. Much like any other skill, gaming requires you to be dedicated, to not be affected by failure and continue to move forward regardless of how much you lose. No professional gamer became what they are overnight. It took a lot of hard work, hard work that you should be willing to do yourself.

While professional PlayStation gaming has been saturated with a lot of people recently, there’s still plenty of room for the next big player. If you have the skills and the right mindset, then that big player might be you. So hone your skills, put in the hours and you just might kill it in the next tournament.
