You’ve been thinking about getting some work done to fix up your nose. You’ve asked your friends for plastic surgeon recommendations. After looking into their suggestions, you can’t fathom why they trusted these surgeons.
They tell you that you’re picky but it’s okay to be a bit choosy when you’re picking out someone who will reshape your entire appearance. Do your research and ask questions. That’s the only way you’re going to be able to find the best surgeon for you.
To help you know what to look for, here are a few tips on how to find a good plastic surgeon.
1. Made Sure They Are Board Certified
Plastic surgery is a delicate process. It takes years and years of education and training to be able to perform it correctly. To this end, you need to ask any surgeon you’re considering if they are board-certified.
You wouldn’t think this would a problem but the government doesn’t require a plastic surgeon to have this qualification. Them having it is the only true way for you know that they will be able to meet safety requirements when working on you though.
2. Ask Them About Their Experience with the Procedure That You Want
Each branch of plastic surgery requires the surgeon to learn different skills. Working on the face is very different than working on the breast after all. They need education and to have done more than a few surgeries in what you want to get done.
Ask potential surgeons how they trained in the procedure you’re looking at, how many times they’ve performed it, and how many years they’ve been performing it. Always consult a qualified plastic surgeon before doing anything dramatic to your look!
3. Look at Their Results
When it comes to matters of your appearance you should never trust a recommendation from a friend alone. Do your own outside research on different surgeons. Look for results.
Before and After Pictures
Most surgeons have before and after pictures on their website that you can look at to see their results in the surgery that you’re thinking about getting. You want to pay attention to their work on patients who have some of the same characteristics that you do.
Facial Procedures
You’re going to look at patients who have close to the same facial structure that you do. For example, if you have a round face, you’ll look at their results on patients that also have a round face.
The patients should also be around the same age as you and have gotten similar work done obviously.
Breast Procedures
As far as breast procedures go, you want the results to match up to your body type so that’s what you will be looking for in the pictures. Past patients who have the same torso and breast concerns.
It gives you an idea about what direction you want to go with for your own surgery and it also shows you that this surgeon has worked with your body type before at least.
Body Procedures
If you have a sagging stomach or carry a little extra weight in your thigh region you’ll want to know how the surgeon handled that with similar patients. Like with breast procedures, look at before and after results for patients with close to the same body type as yourself.
Consistency
You’re going to want to look at several before and after examples to see if the results are the same across the board. Also, with photoshop being a thing, go into it with a bit of skepticism.
Make sure that the lighting and other prominent features are the same in both pictures that you’re looking at.
4. How do the Surgeon and Staff Make You Feel?
The best plastic surgeons will be as kind and skilled with talking with their patients as they are with operations. You don’t want to go through with the procedure if you’re not comfortable with the person doing it.
Ask yourself if you enjoy being in the same room with this person, do you feel comfortable asking them questions, and do you feel safe with giving them your full medical history?
5. Find Out More About the Facility
The more prepared the facility where your surgery will take place, the safer it will be. It needs to be accredited with life support systems in the unfortunate event that something goes horribly wrong.
Look for accreditation levels of the building and while you’re at it, ask about the qualifications of the anesthetist.
6. Do They Have Good Customer Service?
Part of learning to trust a facility and it’s staff is by judging how friendly they are. If you walk into a crabby staff then that will sort of reflect how you’ll be treated during surgery.
The staff needs to be helpful and give you any materials that you need to prepare you for the surgery. All the fees need to be clearly stated somewhere in these materials and when you contact the facility, you should receive a quick reply.
