YThe guitars, drums, and harmonica on Rat mash up reggae, blues, and funk to make something equally delightful for the jam band head as well as the wizened fest goer. There’s an amazing amount of harmony that is weaved through Howlin’ Whale’s lyrical delivery. The resulting effect is something amazing; one needs to strap on a pair of headphones to hear each and every interaction that the vocals and instruments have during this track. Never content to settle into a specific sound, Howlin’ Whale has crafted one of 2019’s best songs.
