Wedding ceremonies have a long history and throughout that history, many changes occurred in the sense of style, traditions and symbolism. As fashion is a living being that changes over time, the same happens with the form of the wedding ceremony. Throughout the years, it involved various dressing styles, decorations, choice of music and the ambience, as well as the activities that happened during the ceremony. Of course, the act differs from culture to culture and time to time, yet they all have the same basic idea – a union of two souls. We’re here to look into the brief history of the ceremony during the past two decades and help inspire you to decide on the details of your own special day.

Wedding dress

It’s difficult to choose a wedding dress and the styles are many. There is the asymmetric neckline dress which has a strap on one shoulder only. It looks elegant and intriguing and good for brides that like to show a bit of shoulder. Opting for a boat neckline has also been popular in recent years and it’s good for the ones that wish to have a more modest wedding look. On the other hand, the halter dress has had its appeals, too. It has straps that meet on the back of the neck and it has some sort of a round V neckline. This is a popular choice for brides that wish to reveal their backs and it can be very elegant. Silhouettes varied from A-line, which flatters any figure, ball gown, which makes you look and feel like a princess, as well as mermaid and mini.

Accessories

We had all sorts of accessories in the new millennium, starting from tiaras that were crazy popular for a while. Tiaras overpowered wedding veils for some time and they stuck by for a while. Their popularity subsided a bit, but some brides still wear them today. The popularity of being tanned rose, as well as the offer of tanning salons, as well as tanning sprays and creams which enables the brides and grooms to easily bronze themselves for the big day. Most grooms would wear satin ties, while brides would choose a set of earrings and a necklace that were usually examples of fine jewellery for unique occasions. Some brides and grooms would match the colour of the tie and the bride’s shoes or create some other fashion connection between them. There are also rings, of course. Their looks also changed during the years and nowadays people use custom made rings or special tattoos instead of actual wedding rings.

The ceremony

A classic tent is a long-standing trend and it represents a good choice for outdoor weddings. It’s also very romantic. Distracting décor is a huge NO as it only takes the eyes of the happy couple and doesn’t really have a point. Neutral colour palettes established their popularity and the trend doesn’t seem as if it is going to cease any time soon. Anything gentle and pastel is always a good choice. No matter the era, people have always honored tradition, at least to some extent. Regardless of how much you do or do not like it, some things are nice to do the same as your parents or grandparents did, for instance. This is why some couples recreate their parents’ wedding photos, venues or wedding dresses. It’s personal and meaningful.
