She’s No Doll, She’s a Woman is the latest single from Marshall Oakman. On this effort (and video), Oakman is able to draw back on 1990s alternative rock. With bright, vibrant vocals and fuzzy guitars representing the backbone for the song, it’s the haunting percussive elements that provide the most depth. This is a deceptively complex composition, one that will continue to yield new discoveries well into a listener’s fifth or tenth experience with the track. Effortlessly moving between rock, pop, and even a bit of 1980s new wave and goth, Marshall Oakman comes forth with something exciting even as it draws upon a rich musical tradition.
