Jessie-May K’s Do What We Want is a hopeful track that blends pop sensibilities with a decidedly retro sort of instrumentation. Keys feel as if they are pulled from 1980s new wave while there’s a hopeful confidence that brings in hints of mid-1990s alternative (eg Elastica, Natalie Cole). The production imbues the track with a crispness that delineates it from the bulk of music put forth. Do What We Want is heartfelt and earnest, tendencies that ensure listeners will eagerly devour what has been put in front of them.

Putting Jessie-May’s vocals front and center will further ingriate herself to anyone that’s focused on in. These vocals are the glue that holds the track together, establishing the story as well as contributing further depth to the instrumentation present here. I’d strongly recommend digging a bit deeper into Jessie May K’s discography.

Rising Up has a delightful back and forth between Jessie-May’s vocals with the chorus, while the one-two of vocals and guitars ends up being absolutely enchanting.

My Type is bolstered through its message of finding attration in areas far afield of where influencers (and popular culture generally) tend to focus on. While it is easy to hear two distinct types of music in these singles, listeners should conceptualize the tracks each establishing another part of the Jessie-May K puzzle . Keeping fans on the edges of their seats is what Jessie-May K does with the initial contributions to her discography.
