The City Said comes forth with meaty, 1980s-inspired synths and a percussive element that make for a solid beat. The atmospheric levels that Xavier is able to achieve with his vocals acts as the cherry on top of the sundae. Multiple instrumental layers provide further depth and replay value for The City Said. There’s a serious groove that Xavier achieves in the lead up to the song’s chorus that outpaces his other works. The sweeping synthesizers straddle the line between early 1980s dance and the disco of the prior decade, all while Xavier puts his own indelible mark on the vox. Quite possibly our favorite of the different songs we’ve heard from the performer over the years.
We’ve covered Toscano a few times over the years, including articles about his Boom Boom (Goes My Heart), The Remedy (Feel Alright), Runaway, Never Wanna Leave, and his Feels So Good CD.
