Oooh, another compilation. For those that do not know, compilations are CDs with a lot of bands that are really cheap, for those punks that don’t have the money. How considerate. That shows that all record labels aren’t stuffed suit bastards trying to gain a buck. Well, enough with the personal commentary. This album is from Kyan Records, and it features the 2 bands on the record label, and 8…
BLACK TIDE burst onto the metal scene with a month-long stint opening up the main stage of Ozzfest. It’s no coincidence that at the young ages of 14 (Gabe-vocals, guitar) 18, (Zakk- bass and Alex-lead guitar) and 19 (Steven- drums), Black Tide already has an Ozzfest notch on their belt and are getting ready for their major label debut. The February release, Light From Above, is a heavy hitting, heart…
Anyu – Reasons / 2007 Axent / 10 Tracks / http://www.anyu.net / Anyu has been around the music scene for quite a few years. Individuals that were on the West Coast and listening to alternative music may remember his earlier act The First Thought. The First Thought opened up for acts as wide and varied as UB-40 and Thomas Dolby. After a few years away from the independent music scene,…
Pilgrimage is the release that has showcased the drone-driven duo in their most daring hour to date. With a successful tour of the Midwest under their belts on the album and praise seeping in from both cult and mainstream press on the album, more dates have been slated, bringing this mantra-manipulating twosome back to the East Coast, followed by several dates in Israel and Europe with more to follow. SargeantJohn…
Please notice that this band is regrettably no longer together, as they were great. What can I say about this band? This album is great. Good sounding vocals, and 70-s style guitar blend together in a formula that sounds like Ted Nugent meets Pantera. This album also includes a Motorhead cover: “Out of the Son” . This album also includes 3 songs in a row just about drinking “Too Damn…
The 2007 “Radio Rebellion” tour, featuring co-headliners JOB FOR A COWBOY and BEHEMOTH launched this Thursday, October 18. Presented by Hurley and Converse, the massive, twenty eight city North American trek will showcase the cream of the crop of heavy music’s rising stars from points across the globe and is already being called “the most ambitious heavy music tour of 2007.” SargeantJohn Sargeant, writing on NeuFutur as Sargeant, is the…
We know this because the leaves in Indiana are turning many shades of awesome, and because there’s a new Richard Youngs album in the hopper, readymade to soundtrack your late mulled cider nights. The album is called “Autumn Response” (release 11/06/07), and it is a spartan folk-“pop” record filled with tinder-box intimacies. It is a singer-songwriter album, as Youngs’ fingers slip over the steel strings with little feet and whispery…
Dave Patten – Fly Away / 2007 Self / 12 Tracks / http://www.davepatten.com / We here at NeuFutur reviewed Patten’s last album, “Too Close, Too Far†in late 2006. This is Dave Patten’s new album, and we were lucky enough to receive it a few days ago. Patten’s “Too Close, Too Far†was a solid album, and “Fly Away†immediately builds on the successes of that earlier album. “Fly Away
This is a 6 song EP out on Noise/Futurist Records. Hellhammer was formed in 1983, and lasted until 1984, when two members of Hellhammer left the band and formed Celtic Frost, which is one of the most popular metal bands out there today. Hellhammer is speed/death metal and the recording on this tape is really shitty. The only thing different about Hellhammer from all the other Speed metal bands is…
“Open the door to your mind and take a ride with Telestrion. Let their brand of heavy cosmic rock and roll take you on a journey to the deepest reaches of inner and outer space, singing a tune, clapping your hands and stomping your feet the whole way.” – Stonerrock.com SargeantJohn Sargeant, writing on NeuFutur as Sargeant, is the founder and editor-in-chief of NeuFutur Magazine, where he has covered independent…

Fiona Joy Hawkins – Angel Above My Piano / 2006 Self / 13 Tracks / http://ww.fionajoyhawkins.com / Fiona Joy Hawkins is an award-nominated (MusicOz Awards) and award-winning (NAR Lifestyle Music Awards) pianist. “Angel Above My Piano†really starts going with “Flight of the Albatrossâ€. This track presents a wide-open soundscape, one in which no vocals are needed. The rich lines laid down by Hawkins tell more of a story than…
“Operator Please are the next big thing….if you like Beth Ditto and The Gossip you will love them. Operator Please fucking rules!” (Perez Hilton) “Imagine being stuck in a lift with a plugged-in B52’s, Bow Wow Wow, Haysi Fantazyzee and Yeah Yeah Yeahs: crashy, trashy, thrashy and gloriously good fun.” (The Sunday Times) “The. Song. Of. The. Summer. Operator Please are about to wrestle the crown of World’s Best Party…
I love independent film studios. They always provide a freshness to the genre in which they create films, and Red Scream Films LLC is no different. One of their new films is “Prison of the Psychotic Damnedâ€, and it follows the rich low-budget horror tradition that early Craven and Corman were instrumental in creating in years past. “Prison†deals with what happens to five individuals that stop by a train…
There are Dio-ish vocals on this album, and a typical level of hair band lyrical quality. This has many amazingly neat sounding guitar solos. This album has 9 tracks. The form of this is a dirgy style of Hair Rock that is electrifing. The guitars and vocals on this album are top notch , but the bass and drums are just average. The band sounds a little bit like Twisted Sister,…
Issued Scat #35, released on Scat records in 1994, with 20 songs from the 6 piece band named Guided By Voices. “Hardcore UFOs” is Indy Rock with distortion filled guitars. These songs are definatly influenced by Pop Music ,as “Buzzards and Dreadful Crows” has vocals that sound like Rod Stewart. The songs are relatively short for non punk songs. “The Goldheart Mountain Top Queens Directory” is awesome, strong, and a…

Has a nasty cough, and eye sight a bit less sharp than when he was 12. Finished a collection of songs : Paranoid Cocoon. Plays those same songs on…

West Side Story: 50th Anniversary Recording / 2007 Decca / 20 Tracks / http://www.westsidestory.com / Pretty much anyone that has watched their fair share of movies or stage performances is at least familiar with “West Side Storyâ€. Since West Side Story originally opened in 1957, the individuals related to the show, along with Decca’s Broadway imprint, thought it necessary to come out with a re-imagining of the score.
