Leo – Nightmares / 2007 DreamMakers / 14 Tracks / http://www.leotheband.com / http://www.rockridgemusic.com / Leo is a band that has been able to reach the tars without truly breaking it big yet. While “Nightmares†will change that, Leo has made somewhat of a name for themselves opening up for bands such as Breaking Benjamin and Sick Puppies, along with doing a live set at this year’s South by Southwest. SargeantJohn…

2 songs are recorded in a studio and the rest are recorded live. Released in 92 on Cleopatra Records, with 18 songs on it. The songs have a fast tempo with a driving beat. The sound is very muddy on the live songs, but it still is amazing to listen to. Very good screaming delivery in the songs ,making this a true brit punk band. Political lyrics and screaming always…

Monster In The Machine – Butterfly Pinned / 2007 Emotional Syphon / 12 Tracks / http://www.monsterinthemachine.com / Pretty much anywhere an individual looks, Monster in the Machine has some sort of ties to legendary rock acts. The label that they are on, Emotional Syphon, is owned by Munky from Korn. Josh Freese (Vandals) and Doug Ardito (Crawford in Cellophane) are captured in different roles during the tracks on “Butterfly Pinnedâ€.…
Serj Tankian, the voice of System Of A Down, emerges as a solo artist with his debut album, Elect The Dead. The album will be released on October 23rd through Serjical Strike Records. Serj Tankian is not what he used to be. [He’s better.] The Lebanese-born Armenian-American poet gone wild has blossomed beyond voice and hair into true fire and brimstone, melodic visionary perched on a cannonball soaring light speed…
8 songs made in 1995. This is really shitty recorded death metal band. The band has a sound near Gwar and MOD . They cover “Dogyalep” by Brutal Truth. Looking at these lyrics, the songs are supposed to be political, but you cant hear a fucking word they say. As with MOD, The politics in their songs are very misdirected (MOD-Right Wing, EN-Left Wing) The guitarist has potential, but he…
Polish progressive rock trio SBB returns with new material! Full length album entitled “The Rock” will be released via Metal Mind Productions on the 5th November 2007 in Europe and on 22nd January 2008 in US (via MVD). As the title suggests, the band’s new music is as powerful as a rock. The follow up to the “New Century” album from 2005 was recorded in early Autumn in a refreshed…
Iller Than Theirs – S/T / 2007 Embedded / 11 Tracks / http://www.embeddedmusic.net / “Razorbumps†is the first track on Iller Than Theirs’ self titled track, and it brings an intense style of rapping to a more classic backing beat. Where it would make sense that there would be tension between these two styles, the combination of the flow with the backing beat makes for a strong first effort by…

This is an 8 song release by these 4 guys from Europe on Century Black, which is a division of Century Media. Sounds of battle start off this cd, which leads into a atypical death metal song- screaming, 300 mph drum beats, and not very noticeable lead guitars. Usually, the lead guitar makes the death metal band, but I guess the harmonies thrown in are the main focus of the…
In the entire history of the thrash metal genre, there was never a band as unique as Believer. While their music showcased thrash influences from the rawest sort, delivering fast and violent sounds, the message they incorporated into their songs was the exact opposite of the typical thrash metal attitude. Through their music Believer preached the word of God – each lyric is a testimony of faith and commitment to…
Parsley Flakes – We Need Friends / 2007 Self / 8 Tracks / http://www.myspace.com/parsleyflakes / I’ve seen the Parsley Flakes live about five times, and I was a little afraid that they would not be able to capture their live magic on this studio album. However, after the first few seconds of “Ladyloveâ€, I was reassured. The style of music that the Parsley Flakes play is an electronic-cum-punk rock blend…

The album has 12 songs and it is on Kill Rock Stars. It was released in 1995. All but one of these songs are played with an acoustic, with little bass or drums. The songs are 1960’s sounding with political messages. I like the messages he sings about, but his playing of the songs is almost lullaby-like. This is a perfect indicator of what the former grungeheads are doing in…
Having recently returned from a largely sold-out headlining tour throughout Europe, Madina Lake have recharged their batteries and are ready to get back on the road here in the States. Co-headlining with Mayday Parade, the Chicago-based foursome kicked off the tour on October 16th in Lacrosse, WI’s The Warehouse and continuing on through November (tour dates below). Mark Olson – The Salvation Blues / 2007 Hacktone / 11 Tracks / http://www.myspace.com/markolsonmusic / http://www.hacktone.com / “The Salvation Blues†is a weirdly-packaged album. When I first opened up the package from Hacktone, I thought they had screwed up and sent me a book instead of the latest Mark Olson CD. A quick check later, and I was on my way to listening to what is one of the more…
Operation Ivy – Operation Ivy  / 2007 Hellcat Records / 27 Tracks/ www.hell-cat.com/ Hep, hep, hep, pick it up, pick it up! Even after their short existence as a band Operation Ivy’s influence can be seen within the Ska/Punk scene as they set the bar for the next platform for a new generation’s angst to be expressed. The reissue of Operation Ivy’s twenty-seven masterful tracks allows a new generation who…
