The electronic feel that Falconhawk has through the entirety of “here’s Your Ghost†modifies the Tegan and Sara sound that was all the rage into a smoothed-out, more-sedate style. What results is something in which Kara’s vocals really become similar to Delores from The Cranberries. While there are moments on “Here’s Your Ghost†that the music starts to blend into each other, Kara’s keyboards do much in shaking up the…
“Their eagerness to stock the toolkit with the language of modern R&B, funk, marching band, gospel, etc. — whether a clipped-snare break-beat, a melody processed through voice manipulation, or a greasy synth pad — meshes naturally with their abilities to arrange and improvise in the jazz idiom.†–Patrick Jarenwattananon, NPR Blog Supreme “Vibraphonist Stefon Harris’ new CD is just the coolest Stevie Wonder album never made. It projects a sly…

The band released Sweet Fist on double vinyl Tuesday, September 29. The record package features original cover art by Klaus Voormann, famed creator of The Beatles Revolver album art, only three tracks per side, cut deep into the vinyl for sound optimization, and a unique story in this day and age. The record was cut on the original Stax Records lathe at Ardent Studios in Memphis. The machine had cut…
Fake Problems – Spurs & Spokes / Bull > Matador / 2006 Sabot / 8 Tracks / http://www.fakeproblems.com / http://www.sabotproductions.net / Reviewed 20 January 2007 I was worried for a little bit. The opening of “Spurs & Spokes†sounds a lot like classic country, but it is only a few seconds before the band moves into a Mojo Nixon bit of bouncy country punk. During “Motion of Ocean’, Fake Problems…
Metal Mind Productions presents a live album by Norwegian black metal legend – Carpathian Forest. The album entitled “We’re Going To Hollywood For This – Live Perversions†features a remastered recording of the band’s great gig in Kraków in early 2004. Can I say that I completely misjudged The Faithfull from their CD cover? I was imagining a sullen, quiet, boring indie rock band, and I was given a up-tempo, post-hardcore verging on emo-rock band. Aside from my birthday and yule gifts, I would have to say that this was one of the best surprises I’ve gotten in the last few years. Mixing the best elements of Boys Night Out, The…
Vocalist Thomas Barnett comments on the new material, boldly stating it to be “the most bombastic, live-feeling, devastating songs we’ve ever recorded.†In true Strike Anywhere fashion, the band is spending the remainder of 2009 on the road. Beginning with the B9 tour, Strike proudly shares the stage with label-mates Polar Bear Club, Crime In Stereo and Ruiner, before heading to Europe and eventually canvassing the globe throughout the remainder…
Junior Boys will be embarking on a North American tour next month, including a special Halloween show at The Bell House in Brooklyn. Fans are, however, strongly encouraged to celebrate the holiday at all of the shows on tour and attend any of the dates in full Halloween regalia. Best costumes will be rewarded with shirts and CDs! Jeremy Greenspan, one half of Junior Boys, explains the month-long Halloween celebration:…
Starting off more metal than “radiohead-ish†as DallasTexasMusic.com would have it, “Forgive Nothing†is some of the cutting edge of what is now being considered emo music, in that it mixes flawlessly a generous bass along with the shrillness of Logan’s vocals just as they mix down-and-dirty rock with punk music. Each track on “Forgive Nothing†is aurally similar enough to make this album a specific blip on the timeline…
Although production on the first two Knaughty Knights releases were insanely lo-fi compared to the later two, it was the third 7″ EP on Goner released in late 2005 with Crook’s epic “Death Has Come Over Me” and “Wenches of Turpentine St.” that were the shining examples of the second coming of Rich Crook, the singer, guitarist and songwriter extraordinaire. These songs possessed the stark simplicity that so many great…
All That Remains and The Devil Wears Prada will co-headline the NAPALM & NOISE TOUR this winter. The tour will hit both coasts and will feature support from Story Of The Year and Haste The Day: Prada vocalist Mike Hranica said “We’re excited to hit the road with All That Remains, Story Of The Year and Haste The Day. Being a co- headline tour, we’ll be able to play a…
4 piece band with very fast and old style Offspring sounding guitar riffs. The recording isn’t great but the SoCal sound still lives with this Canadian band. The sound of the album is one of urgency and is perfect moshing music. The guitar line for “Our new evolution” sounds a little bit like the amazing offspring song off their self-titled release called Tehran. Fade out’s songs are very catchy and…
Green Carnation – this Norwegian band has created songs from both progressive rock and progressive metal genres. The band’s music was continuously losing its heaviness with each release – from straight forward death metal, doom metal/progressive metal, to a more hard rock-sounding form of progressive rock and in 2006 went as far as to an entirely acoustic album. Metal Mind Productions presents a remastered recording of the band’s great show…

John’s vocals provide a interesting contrast to the smooth bass and guitars found on the beginning of this track, seemingly a mixture of David Byrne and Daniel Ash. The effect one gets out of The Factory Incident’s disc is one of increasingly impressive instrumentation and a coolly detached singer laying eir vocals willy-nilly over this music. Muse and Palcebo make their ideological entrance during the beginning strains of “Said and…

he Black Ice World Tour represents The Answer’s third tour of America with AC/DC.
