Since 2002, the seven men and women of Chase Long Beach have been making a name for themselves with musical originality and creating a sound they can be proud of. Working hard from their home turf of Southern California and reaching out to live audiences around the world, the result has been a musical phenomenon and energetic live performance that speaks to their wide audience and provides the answer to…
After weeks of speculation and furious competition among superfans, Daniel Walsh of Brooklyn, NY has discovered the fabled HEALTH CD SWEEPSTAKES Golden Ticket and won a trip to Six Flags Magic Mountain in L.A. with the band. A visibly shaken Walsh emerged Monday morning for an impromptu press conference on his stoop: “Roller coasters and I don’t mix well,” he said. Nevertheless, Walsh continued, “[Winning] has made me realize the…
The great thing with a track like “Get Up Up Up!†is that the track is not necessarily only for the younger set. Obviously, this is what the disc is orientated towards, but the arrangements of the different instruments is fairly interesting and the overall sound of the track is much more full than many other kids’ albums. “A Guitar Pickin’ Chicken†is another kids track, but the track plays…

After holing up for months in their attic apartment to record their new album Apple’s Acre, Nurses are succumbing to the call of the road. Having just completed a U.S. tour with Throw Me The Statue and The Brunettes, Nurses are going back out on the road. They’re flying solo until they hit Baltimore, where they meet up with Le Loup for another lap of these United States. Shortly after…
The sound of Falter Bramnk sounds similar to other French acts like Momus and Gong; there is an eclectic push on “Minimal Romance†that meshes well with a very spastic set of arrangements. There seems to be a raw type of sound that really is prevalent from the opening of the disc; there is a brashness about “Recall of the Souls†that should keep individuals listening, with the express purpose…

I don’t see what the big to do is with having a female singer sound like the mass of other singers out on the market. I mean, completely reminiscent of the traditional screamed-out vocals in the average technicore act are Ali’s vocals during “My Heart, The Beggarâ€. However, the backing instrumentation does some impressive things throughout the entirety of “Lights Outâ€. There are some influences present in the guitars, drum…

Creating some major disturbances in their scene (Phoenix, Arizona), as well as making minor ripples on the national scene, Fall Guy came to my attention through a few rock remixes of Twiztid songs. Compared by some to Linkin Park meeting Eminem, I fail to see that characterization beyond the fact that Fall Guy meshes rap and metal music. The riffs that Driver and Joe Dank create are remnants of metal…
The vast, sweeping distances implied on Rotting Slowly, the debut album by The Curious Mystery, will be the landscape across which the band will traverse this fall. The Curious Mystery will bridge the expanse separating the coasts to bring their unique blend of psychedelic Americana and garage experimentalism to new audiences. Listeners on the East Coast and in the Midwest will be exposed to the unorthodox song structures and textured…
Cocoon of Love, September 29th on Kanine Records. Growing up on Princeton Street in Santa Monica, the group now lives in an aging green house on a hillside in the Eagle Rock district of LA where their album was recorded. Among the many detrimental effects that love has on the mind, one of the more subtle is the way it litters the memory with a batch of misplaced associations –…

There is an interesting beat to “Fall Heads Roll’s†first track “Ride Awayâ€. There is a Ian Dury type sound with the almost-spoken vocals of Mark, while the up-strumming of the guitar during the track seems to show The Fall as having a very distinct ska influence. A very unique thing to “Fall Heads Roll†is the very tangential sound of Mark’s vocals, which are given a mush-mouth treatment that…

Monsters of Folk began as folklore of sorts, when James, Oberst, Ward and Mogis did their first run of shows together in 2004, affectionately known amongst friends and crew as the “Monsters of Folk Tour.†While entertaining audiences coast to coast, the foursome vowed to make their way to a studio at some point after the tour’s completion. Instead, the songsmiths went on to individually release some of rock music’s…
