We Have Band Release Exclusive “You Came Out” Remix On RCRD LBL

NME – “An adventurous and modernist concoction of post-new rave DIY sambapunkdisco jiggery-pokery that’ll come as a shot of distorted filth in the arm for an overflowing UK electro-pop scene… They got band. We found heroes.” GUARDIAN – “Part Hot Chip, part Talking Heads, if Fischerspooner topped Emerge it would sound like this… If someone doesn’t sign them, and sharp-ish, we’ll have a whip round and do it ourselves.” DAZED…

Eric Frederickson – Something Blue (CD)

Eric Frederickson is a Christian singer-songwriter that is slightly different from the typical Stephen Curtis Chapman / Matthew West clone in that a sense of electronic noise is accompanying eir at all times. However, “Something Else” suffers from a compressed recording that sounds as if the entire disc is being played on a lower-grade mp3. Still, even while this might cause a problem for the average listener, Eric’s music shines…

Wax Tailor, ‘Say Yes’ MP3 and Video

Wax Tailor is back with his third album ‘In The Mood For Life’ which encompasses his immediately identifiable sound of Hip Hop, Jazz, Soul, Funk and 60s Pop blended into melancholic melodies which associated him with the likes of DJ Shadow, RJD2, Avalanches, etc with his debut album ‘Tales of The Forgotten Melodies’. The new album shows an evolution in production and song-writing, resulting in a denser, more organic sound.…

Erasure – Nightbird (CD)

I always found myself getting into synnth-pop, but never Erasure. I only had one of Erasure’s albums, though – 1991’s Chorus on tape, meaning that I never really listened to it. “No Doubt” is an interesting choice to start off this disc, as the atmosphere still retains that late eighties/early nineties mall quality to it, as well as a slight tinge of depression put on the synths, a fact that…

Papercuts to tour with Camera Obscura, Cass McCombs

Papercuts’ You Can Have What You Want is the newest phase in Jason Quever’s ongoing pop investigations. The relatively earthbound happy-sad pop of Mockingbird & Can’t Go Back is now launched into the vault of the skies. Here Quever delves further into epic, hazy pop using mostly vintage organs, pulsing bass & Kraut-via-Ringo-inspired drum rhythms. Intact from those earlier efforts are Quever’s sense of arrangement and drama, as well as…

The Epoxies – Stop The Future (CD)

Portland has been the home of some up-and-coming bands of the current era. Off the top of my head, both The Epoxies and Adeline Records’ The Soviettes come to mind. The Epoxies are impressive because no other band can even begin to claim a similar sound – the first track on “Stop The Future” “Radition” mixes together Save Ferris, Bif Naked, Devo, and even The Network to start the disc…

Black Hen Music Proudly Presents The October 20th Release Of “Things About Comin’ My Way”

The songs on this CD come down to us from a world long gone. Between 1930 and 1935, Sam, Lonnie and Armenter Chatman, the three sons of slaves who along with Walter Vinson made up the core of the Mississippi Sheiks, created some of the most memorable blues rants and square dance hollers ever conjured up. Whether bent in prayer or bloody eyed in the throes of howling lust, the…

The Epoxies – S/T EP (CD)

There are a lot of individuals that cal themselves Epoxies fans. This is a great way to hear the band when they were much smaller of a band, back when they weren’t on Fat Wreck. However, The Epoxies still had a style that blended Tron and X-Ray Spex. The first track on this EP is “Need More Time”, and one would be confused to hear that the track actually came…

Epic Soundtracks – Good Things (CD)

“There will be a time when I’ll be back one day”, a line from the opening track to “Good Things”, seems odd considering that soon after the album was released, Soundtracks was found dead in his apartment. Epic’s rich vocals look to be a mixture of Billy Bragg and Roger Daltrey; even if the album was slated to be released in 1997, Epic’s style of Spartanly-created music (doing much of…
