SUBARACHNOID SPACE To Kick Off US Tour

Playing a form of lysergic and almost entirely instrumental rock that draws its DNA from the sounds of classic Krautrock, prog, long-form improvisation and metallic heaviness, SUBARACHNOID SPACE has attracted a fervent and dedicated following over the past decade around albums on established independent labels such as Relapse Records and Strange Attractors Audio House. They’ve delivered their ominous, ethereal riffage, soaring fx-laden guitars and pulsating rhythmic propulsion on the road…

The 11th Hour-Demo (CD)

Another hardcore band, this time from the other coast-California instead of Boston. 11th hour consists of 4 people playing at breakneck speed. This band is influenced more toward the metal end of the spectrum. The screaming vocals are the perfect match for the noisy drums, performed respectively by Albert Goad and Doug Hopkins. The guitars, played by Ian Cross and Brendon Shipley, are amazingly melodic for this type of band.…

Elefant – The Black Magic Show (CD)

At first blush, I was not aware that this was a Kemado release. With the last few Kemado albums, a harder sound than what is heard on “The Black Magic Show” has been present. However, after the track has a little time to work on a listener, they will too understand the reasoning behind Kemado releasing this album. Elefant blend together a number of diverse style, with hints of Blue…

Blue Scholars Re-Release Sophomore LP, Bayani, With New Exclusive Tracks

he last year has been a very interesting one for the Blue Scholars. Armed with a growing and burgeoning following, the group walked away from numerous record label offers, which they deemed as “archaic” and “one-sided,” to form a very unique partnership with their own hometown investor, Seattle’s Caffe Vita Coffee Co., to release several upcoming projects through a groundbreaking deal with perennial Indy powerhouse Duck Down Records. Instead of…

El Angel Mexaton – On The Rise (CD)

So, I have one other Mexican rap act to compare to N.S.B.. El Angel Mexaton does not start that strongly, as “25 To Life” is a track that has a flow that feels like El Angel Mexaton is chewing on eir words. Don’t get me wrong, the flow makes sense with the backing beat that was chosen for the track, but there feels like there is a little too much…

’87 Celebrity – The Green Walls (CD)

Even though a few of the kids from this band have played one of my concerts, and they’ve had tracks up on their website since I first learned about them months ago, I’ve not gotten the pleasure to just sit down and give ’87 Celebrity the attention that they deserve. The mastering is a little rough, with the drums on “Bad Luck” sounding almost as if they were intended to…

Anvil – re-release of the band’s live album out in September!

For some – a living legend of heavy metal, for others – a long forgotten relic of the past. Either way, there’s no doubt that Anvil left a visible mark in the history of heavy music. Their legacy reaches all the way back to the 80’s, when the group celebrated their biggest triumphs. Although Anvil’s popularity eventually expired, the band remained true to their passion and against all the odds,…

Eibol – Karma Kingdom (CD)

“Karma Kingdom” starts off slowly, but when a track like “Ask ?’s” happens, one will start to see some of the enrgy that Eibol brings to the mic. The track is not just someone rapping, but really couching all the harmony of the track in an incredibly hooky flow. The inclusion of a saxophone during the track provides a nice vocal-sounding retort to Eibol’s distinctive style. The major thing that…
