NORTH Light The Way Released 3/18

In the decade-plus they’ve been a band, the Tucson, Ariz.-based trio NORTH has ebbed and flowed their way into becoming one of the most respected outfits in the underground metal scene. Despite a series of lineup changes and personal setbacks, NORTH has returned stronger and more focused than ever on their debut full-length release for Prosthetic Records, “Light The Way.” One week prior to the album’s March 18 worldwide release,…

Toothgrinder – Nocturnal Masquerade

The first time I heard the name Toothgrinder, I was instantly thrown back to San Francisco’s now defunct metal juggernauts Animosity and their 2007 song of the same name. I loved Animosity’s brand of metal, so I secretly hoped that this New Jersey five piece would live up to the hype created by its name alone. And my God, they did!

Janita – Didn’t You My Dear

Some Serious Gravity is a tremendous effecting track that links together pop with Megan Trainor, Pink, and Kelly Clarkson. Easing Into Sanity is one of our favorites, as the track purely succeeds on the rich and varied vocals of Janita; she does double duty in weaving a narrative and contributing to the overall harmony of the single.

Holiday Saison (Peak Organic Brewing)

Portland, Maine’s Peak Organic Brewing has created a winter seasonal in their Holiday Saison that has an incredibly rich and deep set of flavors while keeping the alcohol pegged at a level that makes this a perfect session beer. Peak’s Holiday Season pours with an orange-amber coloration and with a small amount of off-white to tannish head that is slow to break down. Hints of Belgian yeasts and spices (including…

Product of Hate is “Buried in Violence”

Newcomers Product of Hate, with their debut release “Buried in Violence”, are the heavy and technically ferocious kick in the teeth the thrash metal world has been longing for. “When you see the album art, right away you know what to expect: dark, brutal, and unforgiving,” says vocalist Adam Gilley, who along with Cody Rathbone on guitar, Gene Rathbone playing lead guitar, Mark Campbell on bass and Mike McGuire behind…

Orange Giant Barleywine Ale (Ecliptic Brewing)

Orange Giant is a limited-run barleywine released by Portland’s Ecliptic Brewery. The effort pours with an orange-red coloration and a small amount of off-white head. The nose has a good amount of piney hops and alcoholic snap to it, while an initial sip knocks one firmly over the head with oily hops (Ecliptic uses Chinook and Nugget varieties) and a warmth that works its way down one’s esophagus. Orange Giant…

Chris Riffle Out of Town CD Review

Shake Me Up is an emotive bit of pop-rock that soars on the inimitable vocals of Chris Riffle and a smoky, dense set of instrumentation that has guitars, drums, and bass all contributing to something beautiful. Nothing But the Waves expands upon Shake Me Up and adds a contemplative sound and blends together hints of desert rock with impeccable time signatures.

DeadEye Jack (Lonerider Brewing Company)

Lonerider Brewing Company (Raleigh, North Carolina) is the brewery’s current seasonal, a porter that pours with a brown to dark-brown coloration. A solid amount of tannish head sits on top of the beer. Good amount of roasted malt permeates DeadEye Jack with each sip yielding just enough coffee, brown sugar, caramel, and wheat to keep individuals interested. The beer gains further sweetness as it continues to warm to room temperature,…

Jennifer Harper All The Love EP

All The Love In The World is a rich track that deftly ties together the singer-songwriter style of Sheryl Crow and Natalie Cole with hints of country to make for something that sticks with listeners long after the EP has ceased to spin. The rich instrumentation of this EP continues into Little White Lies, a track that ebbs and flows to great effect.
