Ten Ton Man – Permission to Sin EP

Rockabilly with a laid back, sixties sort of country and western. Hints of Johnny Cash and the Nekromantix can be heard on Crazy Theory, while listeners will be treated to a slower and more intricate effort with NSA.

Hunter Bourbon Barrel Aged (18th Street Brewery)

A portion of Hunter, 18th Street Brewery’s (Gary, Indiana) imperial milk stout, was placed into barrels of Journeyman Distillery Buggy Whip Wheat whiskey. This effort is thick with an incredibly dark brown to black coloration and pours little to nothing in the way of head. The Bourbon Barrel Hunter is able to have a luxurious mouth feel with a bevy of flavors. Bourbon, vanilla, caramel, milk chocolate and toasted malt all…

A Night at the Winking Lizard / Lizardville – Copley, Ohio

We stopped by the Winking Lizard / Lizardville in Copley, Ohio for a dinner and had one of our more memorable Akron-area meals. The restaurant was quick to seat us and let us know about the ample beer selection, before starting us off with their Loaded Lizard Nachos and Cheese ($7.29). The Loaded Nachos were large enough to sate the appetites of three or four guests, topped with two types…

Primal Fear “Rulebreaker”

Having been a metalhead for over thirty years one genre I’ve never really gotten into was power metal. Not purposefully mind you – I had always steered toward the thrash and darker side of the metal family tree. After listening to this new Primal Fear CD Rulebreaker, I know for a fact I’ve been missing out on some great music all these years. The two opening songs on here literally…

Akash Mehta – We Heroes (featuring Chris Gayle)

We Heroes, the latest single from London’s Akash Mehta, is a heartfelt and impassioned song that will tattoo its melodies deep into the minds and hearts of listeners. Chris Gayle showcases unparalleled depth and talent with his vocals; hints of Nico & Vinz and Jason Derulo can be discerned here. The dynamism of We Heroes ensures that the replay value of this cut is higher than the average radio single.

Velinski – “Living The Dream” featuring Sertari

“Living The Dream” by Velinski featuring Sertari is a track that timelessly ties together the pop of the early nineties with a vibrancy that will make fans of current R&B dig this composition. The considerable vocal power exerted here does just as much to ferry the overall harmony of the single as the backing instrumentation. The two elements combine to create something decidedly greater than their constituent parts.

Common Sense (Upstate Brewing)

Upstate Brewing (New York) has created Common Sense, a Kentucky Common Ale Common Sense would be a great beer paired with burgers, salty foods, or American cuisine. The style is interesting as it had disappeared for the most part after Prohibition; while grain and malt are in ample supply here, one can discern hints of dark fruits and slight floral elements. While a more easy drinking beer, Upstate’s Common Sense…

HBC-291 (Single Hop Series)

The HBC-291 hop is a relatively new varietal, and before Flying Dog’s bottling of this IIPA (Imperial India Pale Ale), had only been used in a few beers previously. Single Hop Series: HBC-291 is an utterly distinctive Imperial IPA released by Maryland’s Flying Dog Brewery. The HBC-291 pours with a burnished brown to slightly orange coloration. This effort fills a glass with a significant amount of head that sticks around for a…

Dark Days: A Memoir (Randy Blythe)

David Randall “Randy” Blythe is the vocalist and lyricist of the metal band Lamb of God – from my previous readings of his blog and attending 3 Lamb of God concerts it’s hard to believe that this wild growling madman on stage is such an eloquent writer in his stories beyond just song lyrics. Randy writes this book telling of his arrest, incarceration, trial and ultimate acquittal when he was…
