The little spectacular town of Rovinj is located on the western coast of the Istria peninsula. It was built between the 3rd and 5th century and what makes it extremely beautiful is that its bordered on three sides by the Adriatic Sea. This leaves a limited space at the center which the Venetians constructed unique narrow streets with small squares and small houses. The houses are also made Venetian style with pale limestones that seem to glow under the sun.

Rovinj is quite popular to many tourists in search of reserved and unfrequented holiday destinations. There is nothing as great as the spectacular Mediterranean climate coupled with the pristine sandy beaches of the Aduatric sea. The city has a population of just 14,000 people who rely on tourism as the country’s main source of income. A tourist in Northern Italy can easily fetch a ferry from Venice to Rovinj to engage in amazing activities such as;

  • TOUR THE LIM FJORD

This heavenly natural wonder must be the most beautiful attraction in the whole of Istria. It’s located on the western coast of the peninsula and can simply be described as a fjord and a canal. It’s a 10-kilometer river canyon lined by mountainsides that sour to the heights of up to 100 meters. The sight is something to ogle over and it has made many travel miles to have a glimpse of this natural scenery. A tourist can reach this natural wonder either by road or by boat along the river. There are those who choose to hike or bike thought the dense forest at the canyon to enjoy a breathtaking view of the fjord.

  • VISIT THE ST. EUPHEMIA CATHEDRAL

The tower of the St. Euphemia cathedral dominates the skyline of Rovinj. It was built in the 17th century by the Venetians in the ancient times. Tourists make their way to the 61-meter-high tower to have a good look of the amazing city. Don’t be surprised to spot the Alps to the north on a good day. Inside the church there are various artworks including a marble altar with a statue of the Rovinj patron saint. Behind the altar is a coffin of the remains of the saint are kept.

  • PUNTA CORRENTE

Punta Corrente is a natural park founded by an Australian industrialist by the name of Georg von Hütterott who bought some land on the peninsula and allowed the fauna and flora to flourish. That was way in the 19th century but now it’s nothing short of beautiful park that tourists go for relaxation. There are plenty of trails and grassy parks that tourists can have picnics or do some biking.

  • MONKODONJA

Monkodonja was a bronze age settlement founded in the 18th century BC and it’s rumored to have ties with the ancient Greek city of Mycenae. The settlements were surrounded by strong walls built using the drywall technique. This attraction is located 5kilometres south-east of Rovinj and is clearly a different sight to what it used to be. Nowadays, the site is made of walls, barely a meter high where one can walk along the paved areas. The wall provides a good view of the Adriatic which looks spectacular at sunset.

  • STROLL AROUND THE OLD TOWN

The old town’s maze-like form is an aspect that fascinates a lot of tourists in this region. The winding streets filled with plenty of cafes and restaurants are fun for tourists to go around. There are shopping boutiques and small shops along the way that offers the tourists a place to get souvenirs and necessities during their stay.
