When we were still centered in Ohio, we made it a point to visit New Jersey on the regular. In fact, one of the most memorable times that we have had in our time together was when my wife and I went to Atlantic City and Cape May. We did not even go out to gamble in any fashion at Atlantic City, instead going out to the beach and seeing what sort of video game arcades were down in the area. Luckily, New Jersey has always had a fairly open ability for adults to gamble in their state. In the course of the last few years, New Jersey’s state legislature had liberalized their attitudes towards online sports betting. It was no surprise then that a number of distinct companies have hung their shingle in the state in the year or so since the law was passed and the legal challenges to its legality were rebuffed.

Cape May was a similarly fun destination, as the grim and more urban area of AC ceded ground to increasingly pricey beachfront properties. While I don’t think we actually made it to the area where Jersey Shore was filmed, there were quite a few destinations that had the communal beach house that we passed during our stay in Jersey. Heck, even the Borgata was a sight to behold even if we didn’t have the cash to stock by and play a few hands.

NJ online casinos have came into their own in the last few months, and it’s frankly exciting to see some of the more Puritanical attitudes that previously held sway in the United States begin to dissipate. It always seemed curious to me that online betting was so demonized in popular media over the course of the last decade or so. Let us know what you think this update in NJ legislation means for other neighboring states and the rest of the country as a whole.

Other Attractions in New Jersey

One of the destinations that we just had to hit up was a WaWa. We had a number of Wawa’s competitors Sheetz scattered throughout northeast Ohio, and were actually a bit disappointed when we realized that WaWa was more of a plain gas station with food that you could order rather than the destination that Sheetz was. Heck, even a store like Rutters (centered in Eastern Pennsylvania), had a greater supply of different ready to order foods than the Wawas which we visited.

Cape May was perhaps the highlight of all of our New Jersey trips. We were previously lucky enough to get different beers shipped to us from Cape May Brewing Company, but the brewery was even more impressive than their brews had talked it up to be. While popular culture had dumped on New Jersey throughout the 1980s and 1990s, it seems as if the state has really turned its fortunes around. Whether it be a tremendous ocean shore, inviting breweries and other attractions, or some of the best casinos in the world, the Garden State has a little bit of something for everyone.
