There aren’t many things better than getting a pizza and a few beers when you’re ready for a night in. The only problem is when you’re thinking about ordering the fourth pizza of the week and your bank account is hurting as much as your insides. If you’re getting that feeling that you need a pizza delivery then try some of these quick meals which are both fast and more nutritious than another meat feast. Although a delivery is always consistently delicious, let’s keep it as a guilty pleasure!

Naan pizza

This is a great option if you want something that looks like pizza and tastes like pizza but you’re trying not to spend the extra on getting one delivered. The secret is always to keep a handful of frozen naan breads ready along with some high-quality pizza topping. With these two at your disposal all you need is to check your fridge for toppings. Add some cheese and a selection of meats and vegetables for a quick and easy pizza. 

Pasta, meat and sauce

This is one of the most simple but effective recipes for a quick meal on a weekday. Similar to the pizza topping go out of your way to find a good sauce, which will make any pasta dish taste amazing. If you have a local Italian then see if they pre-make sauce that you can buy. If not look for a good marinara sauce and try to find a jar with the lowest sugar levels possible. Combine the pasta with the sauce and then add in any meats that you have available – meatballs, chorizo and chicken are all good options. To bring to nutrition to the table try adding some roast veg or spinach are you’re ready to eat.

Stuffed baked potatoes

If you are trying to cut down how much meat you are eating then this is a great choice. Take a large baking potato, pierce it several times and microwave it or cook in the oven until the centre is soft. Then cut in half and scoop out the centre and add to a bowl. Combine this with butter, cheese and any leftover meat or veggies. Scoop back into the potato skins and cover with a little cheese. Grill this for a few minutes and serve!

Greek style pita bread

This is another quick meal that has everything you need for a healthy after work meal. Good pita bread is the place to start, and then simply fill with well-seasoned chicken, cucumber, lettuce and onion. Finish it off with a healthy spoon of hummus and tzatziki.

Slow cooker meals

The slow cooker is the ultimate hack to making meals that are convenient and delicious to help stave off those takeaway cravings. A few great options to make in the slow cooker are;

Burrito bowls – add meat, pre-made burrito seasoning, canned beans and tomatoes and cook.

Slow cooked ham – buy and cook on slow. Serve with potatoes and veg for a meal in minutes

Meatballs – toss these in with your marinara sauce and cook for a few hours. Can be served with pasta or on bread for meatball subs.
