Why will a Word Docs File Not Open?

There can be a number of reasons behind this. For instance:

  • Round tripping—when the user is trying to convert the file’s format back and forth.
  • Changing different Office versions.
  • Trying to open files in different versions of Office.
  • Disruptions in an internet connection when downloading a file.
  • Improper installation of the MS Office Suite.
  • Damaged header components

These issues can corrupt an MS docs file. However, you can use the following ways for effective Excel repair.

Option I—Try to ‘Disable’ or Change the Protected View Settings in MS Word

For this method, use the following steps…

Step i—Launch MS Word. From the top menu bar, click File. Then, choose New followed by Blank Document.

Step ii—Now, click File again and choose Options (at the bottom of the menu bar).

Step iii—A box will pop on the screen. Choose Trust Center Tab. And, then click on the Trust Center Settings.

Step iv—Choose Protected View from the options. Now, in the Protected View Settings, uncheck all the boxes. Now, press OK and save the changes you have made.

Step v—Now, restart MS Word. Try to Open the (corrupted) file again.

If this method of Excel repair doesn’t work, here is another option that you can use.
