Even before the age of Covid, buying flowers online was a smart decision. Now, it’s all but essential. Luckily, buying online is a win win situation. Sourcing your florals online from a reputable seller means you get your blooms straight to your door, without hassle. And because your flowers are packaged professionally, chances are they’ll make it to your home in better condition than if they took a ride in your car from the local floral shop.

We like to source flowers for all of our gift-giving occasions from Bouq’s, so we thought we’d share some of our favorite tips for buying flowers online.

Determine Your Budget Ahead of Time

Once you jump online and see the bounty of flowers available, it can be really hard to moderate your spending. Doubly so because chances are you’re buying these flowers for someone you very much love! To avoid spending more than you should, set a limit before you log on. We recommend somewhere between 60 and 100 dollars. (But, you can get a beautiful bouquet of high quality blooms for as little as 50 dollars.)

Find a Reputable Floral Distributor

Not all online florists are created equal, and it’s important to find one not only that you trust, but one that feels accessible and welcoming to you. We recommend reading the reviews of your prospective companies (and even looking at their Instagram hashtags!) before you take the plunge. It’s even better if the company you’re considering reveals where they source their flowers from.

Select the Florals Best Suited to Your Recipient

In our opinion, this is the most fun part! It’s such a loving gesture to handpick the flowers that you think your Valentine will like the best. If you’re not sure what they’d prefer, a good rule of thumb is to think about how they dress. If they’re mostly into earth tones and neutrals, try something like white roses. If they dress in bright rainbow shades, opt for some saturated tulips.

Choose the Correct Delivery Date

To play it safe, you may want to make sure your flowers arrive the day before you plan to give them. So it’s a good idea to make sure you know when you’ll be celebrating Valentine’s day with your honey (if it’s not on the actual day).

Consider Getting Florals for More Than Just Your Valentine

Increasingly, Valentine’s day has (rightfully) become a holiday celebrating more than just romantic love. If it’s within your budget, consider getting blooms for a few of the people who you love dearly, not just your significant other. Your best friend, roommate, or mother would be stunned and touched to have a beautiful bouquet waiting for them on their special day.

Consider Gifts to Go Along With the Flowers

We think a beautiful bouquet makes a great gift all on its own, but if you’re thinking about giving another gift along with the flowers, consider what that might be. Some online flower boutiques even sell hand-selected jewelry and other gifts along with some of their bouquets.

If nothing on your flower distributor’s website suits your fancy (or they don’t have gift items other than flowers), consider a craft website like Etsy to order something specially made for your lover. Try a special artisan food or a gold bracelet stamped with their name.

And there you have it! Buying flowers online is not only simple, it can be really fun. We hope you enjoy picking out some blooms for your loved one this Valentine’s day, and hey, we wouldn’t blame you if you ordered some for yourself too.
