Great music is at the center of culture, no matter the genre we’re talking about or the audience keeping it alive. In this spirit, Kaitlyn Kohler’s new single “Everywhere I Go” sounds and feels like it was tailor-made for the contemporary era, wrapping around us like warm arms in a much-needed embrace from a friend we need to make. Kohler enters the mix with a voice as smooth as velvet, but her words are anything but cavalier. She’s got a lot on her mind here, a lot of personal emotion to put out on the table, and she isn’t about to hold back simply out of a necessity to sell records – after all, she didn’t get into this medium to make money so much as she did make a statement with her work

There’s a strong sense of emotionality in the vocal, and I don’t think you need any sort of professional training to pick up on how important its relationship with the string play at the beginning of this song is. The lyrics sound honest and legitimately feeling, but were they not sewn into the fabric of the instrumental melody we start with in “Everywhere I Go,” I’m not sure whether or not their narrative would stick with us as long as it does after the music has concluded. Half of this lingering vibe is because of the sparkling production quality, but the other half can be traced directly to the magnetizing performance from Kohler that we bear witness to here.

The strings get a little indulgent in a few spots, but in my view, the richness this yields becomes a target point for the lead vocal for the duration of the track. For the whole of “Everywhere I Go,” Kohler will expend almost all of her energy trying to match the intimate energy of the instrumentation, and it’s the audience that gets the bulk of the reward for her efforts when all is said and done. Her commitment to the music is something I wish I would come across more often when reviewing the Nashville establishment, but then again, it’s the reason why she’s such a fresh find this late summer season.

Pop aficionados will find few indie cuts that are quite as charming as what Kaitlyn Kohler has just put out in her new single, and if you don’t believe me, I would tell you to get ahold of “Everywhere I Go” for yourself to find out otherwise. “Everywhere I Go” feels like the song that could put this artist over the top with mainstream critics, and while I can’t speak to their tastes or interest in the market as it pertains to economics, this track is as close to country perfection as you’re going to get right now. I like Kohler’s style, and with a little more time and room to grow into her own, she’s going to be hard for anyone in this game to slow down, including those who are already a little ahead of her in the charts.
