Ute Lemper

Ute Lemper’s cover of “Mack the Knife” is truly a multimedia experience. The dramatic vocal delivery of Ute is married to a very eclectic set of recordings involving her. Over the course of this version, Ute is able to incorporate 1980s synth-pop, traditional torch singers, and a bit of the late-1960s Bond themes. Together, these elements ensure that the reimagined Mack the Knife is given another lease on life. It’s always hard to serve both masters of ensuring the cover faithfully incorporates the original while being transformed in a way that ensures the performer’s track is sufficiently different. Ute Lemper is able to achieve these goals while making for something that will stick with listeners for a good, long time.

We’ve previously covered Ute Lemper’s Permanently Confused and Time Traveler .
