NASCAR is currently deep into its 2026 season, with the Cup Series now in the middle of The Chase postseason. The regular season has already set the field, and the focus has shifted toward the championship battle. Each remaining race now carries greater importance as drivers work to strengthen their position.
The closing stretch also brings a different rhythm to the season. Strong finishes can build valuable momentum, while costly mistakes can leave teams with ground to recover. As The Chase continues, the standings offer a clearer picture of how the fight for the 2026 Cup Series title is developing.
Larson Takes One-Point Lead Over Hamlin
That format has produced an extremely close fight at the top after Bristol. Kyle Larson left the race with 2,206 points, giving him a one-point lead over Denny Hamlin at 2,205. Larson finished second at Bristol, while Hamlin placed eighth, allowing Larson to take the points lead. With the standings so close, both drivers have little room for mistakes.
NASCAR odds on FanDuel also show how the market views the title race as the standings change. Those odds are separate from the official points, where Hamlin remains just one point behind Larson after starting The Chase as the top seed with 2,100 points. The small gap keeps the title battle tight. One strong race could quickly change the order at the top. That puts even more pressure on both drivers to keep finishing near the front.
Logano’s Bristol Win Tightens Title Fight
The fight at the front tightened further when Joey Logano won at Bristol. He worked through traffic late in the race and pushed through the lead with only a handful of laps remaining. The victory was his 40th Cup Series win and his third of the season. It also gave him a major boost at an important point in The Chase. The timing made the win even more valuable as the championship race tightened.
That win also significantly improved Logano’s championship position. He moved up four places in the standings and now sits third with 2,190 points. That leaves him 16 points behind Larson after earning 73 points at Bristol. Logano had already cut the deficit with a third-place finish at Gateway, and his Bristol victory turned the top fight into more than a two-driver contest. He is now firmly back in the title mix.
Bell and Gibbs Keep Pressure Building
The title race is not limited to the top three. Christopher Bell is fourth in the standings with 2,189 points, trailing Logano by one and Larson by 17. Ty Gibbs sits just outside the top four with 2,164 points. His fourth-place finish at Bristol kept him within striking distance, and another strong weekend could move him higher in the standings. Bell remains close enough to the top three to make a move with one strong race or performance. The gap is still small.
Ty Gibbs is farther back but still in the lead pack at 2,164 points, 42 behind Larson. He also showed strong pace at Bristol by leading 120 laps before finishing fifth. Bell needs only a small points swing to move closer to the front. Meanwhile, Gibbs has more ground to make up but has already shown the speed to collect valuable points. Both still have a clear chance to gain ground as The Chase moves into its remaining races.
Blaney and Reddick Need Strong Responses
The gaps widen just behind Gibbs, particularly for Ryan Blaney. He sits sixth with 2,154 points, 52 behind Larson after a difficult start to the opening Chase races. A brake rotor failure at Gateway led to a 35th-place finish, and a brawl with Carson Hocevar at Bristol added another setback the following weekend. Those two races cost Blaney valuable ground and left him with much more work to do over the remaining Chase races.
Tyler Reddick faces a similar challenge from seventh with 2,145 points, putting him 61 behind the championship leader. Ordinary finishes may not be enough to close that distance if Larson, Hamlin, Logano and Bell continue running near the front. Strong finishes, stage points and avoiding problems matter more as fewer races remain.
Hocevar and Wallace Face Bigger Gaps
The championship math gets even tougher farther down the standings. Carson Hocevar sits eighth with 2,121 points, leaving him 85 behind Larson despite a strong third-place finish at Bristol. Bubba Wallace also faces a sizable deficit with 2,114 points, putting him 92 behind the championship lead. That makes every strong finish more important as both drivers try to close the gap over the remaining Chase races.
Both drivers still have seven races to gain ground, but the elimination-free format gives them no automatic reset. A victory can provide a large points boost, yet it does not erase everything lost earlier in The Chase. Closing gaps of more than 80 points will likely require several strong finishes along with weaker results from some of the drivers currently ahead. They have little room for another poor result.
Seven Races Can Still Change Everything
The 2026 NASCAR Cup Series title race remains close, with several drivers still within reach of the lead. Larson leads Hamlin by one point, while Logano and Bell are close behind. Gibbs, Blaney, and Reddick need to close the gap, while Hocevar and Wallace face even bigger deficits. With no elimination rounds, every point still matters from one race to the next. And with seven races left, strong finishes and avoiding costly mistakes could decide the championship.
