Cheap Sex Interview with Mike Virus [Conducted by JMcQ, 05 August 2006] What does the band’s name, “Cheap Sexâ€, mean? Why was it chosen? Mike – The name Cheap Sex doesn’t have any meaning behind it. We were looking for a name that had some humor that would grab attention on a flyer. I mentioned the name ‘Cheap Sex’ and we just decided to go with it. SargeantJohn Sargeant, writing…

Did you ever want to get some swords, self defense tools, or other fun little toys but did not have a Waterbeds & Stuff store around? I stumbled upon King of Swords a few nights ago, and found literally hundreds of dollars of stuff that I actually wanted. Essentially, what King of Swords is is one of those stores at the county fair, albeit expanded a hundredfold. If you want…
Joemca – Jum+Ka / 2006 One Stone / 5 Tracks / http://www.joemcamusic.com / Joemca is someone that I was not familiar with before picking up this EP. The very Depeche Mode style to the vocals during the first track “Strangers†make it seem like Joemca is influenced tremendously by the New Romantic style. Unlike a number of the acts from that era, there seems to be a high amount of…

The FADER.com “The band Drug Rug out of Cambridge, Massachusetts with a self-titled album coming in September on Black and Greene kind of sound like a dirty, shredded baja sweater, so we congratulate them on their self-awareness and funky jams and we present you with this song called “Day I Die.”http://www.thefader.com/blog/articles/2007/07/10/audio-drug-rug-day-i-die SargeantJohn Sargeant, writing on NeuFutur as Sargeant, is the founder and editor-in-chief of NeuFutur Magazine, where he has covered…
The Horrifics – Now Fear This / 2006 1031 / 17 Tracks / http://www.thehorrifics.net / http://www.1031records.com / I must admit that I did not expect a hard type of punk music looking at the band. One member of the band has hair like Wayne Static and yet another looks like ey would be perfect in Union Underground. However, what The Horrifics sound like is nothing like how they look. “Uzumaki
Daylight Dies – Dismantling Devotion / 2007 Candlelight / 8 Tracks / http://www.daylightdies.com / http://www.candlelightrecordsusa.com / Daylight Dies has a very subtly stated introduction to “Dismantling Devotion†that gives the resulting section of “Life Less Lived†that much more gravity. There is nothing in the way of vocals during the opening minutes of “Dismantling Devotionâ€, but this does not hinder Daylight Dies in the creation of a solid bit of…
Los Angeles, CA: Sunset Strip rock darlings Poets & Pornstars today announced that they will open for Tesla on the remainder of their U.S. Tour. More than four decades after its countercultural beginnings, Los Angeles’ famed stretch of live-music venues continues to draw bands cranking out what band member Hal Ozsan calls “down-and-dirty three-chord rock.” “Poets & Pornstars” is a particularly spectacular example of the form, demonstrated by their eponymous…
The Leftovers – On The Move / 2007 Rally / 13 Tracks / http://www.myspace.com/theleftovers / http://www.rallyrecords.com / The Leftovers have played with bands like The Queers and the Hard-Ons, and one can definitely hear the influence of the former during “On The Moveâ€. The first track on the disc is “Run Real Fastâ€, and while it does have hints of Sum 41 and newer “punk†band, the same general Queers/Lillingtons/Darlington…
