Editors – Back Room (CD)

The disaffected vocals that are such a major facet of Editors’ sound is something that has to be related to prior acts, most notably Joy Division. For example, songs like “Blood” have the same wide-open style that “Transmission” has all those years ago. Every constituent part of Editors’ music is intricately tied to the rest of the music on the disc, even if there are wide spaces between each instrument.…

Ed Gein – It’s A Shame (CD)

Ah, this type of amelodic hardcore/metal really brings me back to some of the earliest reviews I would put up on the website. While there are lines of semi-melody thrust into the music at different times during the disc, everything seems to be constructed on a whim, without any real decision on syncing up the band. When the vocals do come out in any of these tracks, the style is…

Edenpark – The ____ Album (CD)

“Ruthless Warrior” is a track that is a mixture of rock and punk music, which creates Edenpark’s sound as something that is almost hardcore in its implementation. The use of multiple vocals during the track give the track a full sound that is a good introduction, considering the true “Intro” is a little too long for individuals to stay interested throughout. The fact that Edenpark sticks in a second set…

Theo Eastwind – The O (CD)

While the style is not the pop music of the eighties, Theo starts out eir “The O” with a track in “Set-Up” that has more of a passing similarity to “Synchroncity”-era The Police and Peter Gabriel. The sound of an Eastwind song is organic, but dense. This is a stark contrast to a number of the other singer-songwriters of the current period, who tend to be as Spartan as possible.…

East Coast Dreamers – Breaking Hearts To Break Barriers (CD)

The East Coast Dreamers start off their “Breaking Hearts To Break Barriers” with a track that skillfully unites pop-punk with what is currently called “emo”, while staying away from the pitfalls present with both genres. The same vocal tone is achieved during the disc’s first few tracks, something that may unite tracks but really lulls the band into a possible disc-killing complacency. The Dreamers smartly change up the disc’s overall…

Art Brut Set Up US 2009 Fall Tour

Alternative Press : (**** 4 Stars ) “British indie outfit regain their charm/snark balance. Art Brut Vs. Satan is compelling for three crucial reasons. First, Black Francis—a guy who knows something about charging guitar rock—produced the sessions. Second: The guitar subterfuge of Jasper Future and Ian Catskilkin (the only good components to 2008’s rather dismal It’s A Bit Complicated), drive home these songs with a renewed enthusiasm. Lastly, frontman Eddie…
