Mountain Hardwear Drifter 3 (Tent)

The number of tents that are on the market is nothing less than amazing – there are tents for all activities, hold all sorts of individuals, and can be put up in a variety of ways. However, there is a wide array of quality to be had with these different tents, but we have found one that is a solid buy. The Drifter 3, a three-person tent from Mountain Hardwear, is that tent. When one picks up the Drifter 3 box, they will be shocked by the lightness of the tent – it weighs a hair less than two pounds. Despite the lack of weight, there is a sturdiness present in all sides of the tent. The poles used – Press-fit 7001s – along with the polyester that is used at points during the tent give the product its low weight but also a tremendous amount of stability.

The vestibule of the Drifter 3 (clocking in at 10 sq ft) will allow campers to stash their goods in the tent, while the 83×88 floor size will give ample room for three adults. For those hikers that may not be too familiar with pitching a tent, the color-coded pole / grommet system will ensure that the tent will be up in only a few minutes. Equally strong no matter the weather, the Drifter 3 is a tent that works perfectly in all warmer climates, allowing for good ventilation along with solid protection from any storms that may pop up.

With a MSRP of $195 and a solid enough construction to service an individual or small family for a number of years, one should look into purchasing a Drifter 3 whenever they need a tent. If you need some other accessories, check out the linked Mountain Hardwear website for additional sleeping bags, backpacks, and other camping accessories.

Dr. Seuss Wet Bag (Bumkins)

We received a set of products from Bumkins that are licensed and showcase characters from Dr. Seuss books. One of these items that we received is a wet bag which is incredibly versatile when it comes to including with the never-ending list of supplies that one brings each time they ferry their children from point A to B. This means that breastfeeding implements can be placed inside of it such as cones and tubes after they have been used without staining up the diaper bag and everything else it touches while wet and dirty diapers can be included and zipped up so that they don’t contaminate the rest of the materials in the satchel.Dr. Seuss Wet Bag (Bumkins)The quality of Bumkins’ Dr. Seuss Wet Bag means that one will be able to use it on a pretty heavy rotation for quite a few years before the material or the zipper go south. The waterproof material which the bag is made is a brilliant addition to anyone that has a leaky, drippy or otherwise wet item in their possession. We even had some luck putting bottles into the wet bag, especially those which we have lost the cap further keep down what is a messy existence when one has a bottle-fed child. Bumkins has a number of different licenses for shows and companies like The Cat in the Hat, Disney, and DC Comics and a wide variety of different bags and containers available. We were similarly pleased with their laundry bag, which utilizes similar design and product material to the wet bag albeit in a larger size. For more information about the full range of products that Bumkins produces please visit their website for a full listing, new product announcements and product availability.

True Temper Aluminum Combo Snow Shovel

The winter in the Great Lakes Region is fairly intense. While we have missed some of the larger snowfall that hit the East Coast and the center of Ohio in the last few weeks we still have gotten a fair amount of snow, ice, and winter weather. It is a absolute requirement that if you own or rent a house that has any sort of parking on the street or in a driveway that you will need to go and have a snow shovel. Even the most liberal pouring of salt on a walk way or other area will not suffice to get the snow out of the way. Continue reading “True Temper Aluminum Combo Snow Shovel”

Ariat Terrain H2O Boots

We were lucky enough to receive a pair of Ariat’s Terrain H2O Boots. We go on a lot of hikes and other outdoor activity, so it was essential to have a really solid pair of boots. The boots are ruggedly designed meaning that one need not replace them for years after purchase. They are fashionable as well meaning that they work in a bar, on hikes, and even on dates and other social interactions. The overall comfort level of the Terrain H2O boots are very high as well. There seems to be an expectation that one purchases a pair of boots that they will be uncomfortable even if they are functional and useful in every other aspect – the Advanced Torque Stability keeps cushioning the foot through any activity or movement that one may do. Terrain boots are able to take everything while being a shade lighter than other heavy-duty boots; this is a marriage of advanced technology and skillful fabrication.  Continue reading “Ariat Terrain H2O Boots”

Bogs Classic Short Boot

The boots that I have purchased in the past seemed to be tools rather than comfortable shoes. If a concert was outside and muddy, you would wear boots. Feet would be blistered and sore by the end of the day, but we were lucky enough to find out a bout Bogs and their Classic Short Boot. Continue reading “Bogs Classic Short Boot”

Cyclops Rechargeable Revo 900 LED Hand Held Spotlight

We were able to go camping for the first time in my life a few months ago and everything seemed to be great. The one thing that we did not anticipate was to have a flashlight or other light emitting source. This meant that whenever we went to the bathroom or had to conduct any business between different tents we were quite literally in the dark. Sure, most current generation smartphones have a flashlight application but the lights that they provide is very weak, the app may contain spyware, and is not able to illuminate pitch black conditions. We received a Revo 900 lantern from Cyclops yesterday and are pleased to announce that it is able to charge up in the space of a few hours. The lantern created 935 lumens for up to 68 minutes of burn time, due to the two Luxeon LED’s in the front of the spotlight. Continue reading “Cyclops Rechargeable Revo 900 LED Hand Held Spotlight”

Grand Trunk Uinta 4-Person Tent

Throughout all my youth, I never went on any camping excursions. I was always more of a fan of staying inside and playing on the computer – something that I still enjoy. We went to the Midwest reggae fest a few months ago and required a tent for the extended festival duration. The actual day that we went the weather was incredibly bad – the ground was squishy, the rain would not stop, and there was a little bit of a chill in the air. When we first got to the festival we had the tent in the bag in which it came. We were able to remove the tent in the car but still needed to go and unfurl it to set it up before we can use it for shelter; we had expected to take 30 to 40 minutes to set up the came and to get slightly soaked in the process. Eagles Nest Outfitters SingleNest Hammock

A hammock is one of those things that, while not absolutely essential for a camping or hiking trip, makes the trip that much more comfortable. There are a wide array of fabrics and enclosures that are utilized in hammocks, but Eagles Nest Outfitters (ENO) creates hammocks that utilize space-age and other leading edge fabrics for their hammocks. The mounting system that one can purchase for the SingleNest hammock insures rapid placement on the hammock on the tree without the hammock slipping or falling. I am pleased to report that the weight limits that are listed on the hammock our just recommendations – we were able to place about 500 pounds of weight in a SingleNest without any tearing.
