I must say, I missed out on the original release in the Dynasty Warriors: Gundam series, but this title is as good as any to showcase the incredibly game play options and abilities that Koei has thrown in to this series. For players that have played the Dynasty Warriors series, there will be a number of elements that are similar. That is, there are tons of hack and slash elements tied to a wealth of more RPG-like bits and pieces. Throw on another layer –that of a sci-fi bit of back story – and what results is a delightful mélange of different approaches and styles.
Players can fly and use much more in the way of ranged weapons that were present in feudal lands, while the scenes players are active in represent much more futuristic digs than in other Dynasty Warriors titles. For those individuals that have kept a careful eye on the Gundam story line as it has developed in prior titles, the events in Dynasty Warriors Gundam 2 work off of what happened in Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack. The gearing up of the main characters provides the most interesting type of game play. Instead of coming into the game at full power, different armors, weapons, and other trinkets are needed to ensure that one’s character is at an optimum fighting capacity for the later (and obviously harder) bosses.
The 62 different suits that players can use in the game dwarves that of the initial title in the Dynasty Warriors Gundam line: a full 62 suits are usable whether only 19 were present at the onset of the first title. The graphics are solid, mixing a proper amount of fluid motion with realism and just enough cartoonish elements to ensure that the game keeps the eyes of all that may be playing it. The controls are simple enough for players to pick up the control and just move forward, while and audio will assault ears and keeps hearts pounding through the entirety of a gamer’s experience. Pick up the title, whether it be for the PS2, PS3, or the Xbox 360.
