We received a ginger vodka in the mail a few months ago and were not impressed with how the company blended together the flavor with the vodka. However, we were approached to cover Yazi Ginger Vodka and thought that we would give the pairing a second shot. We are glad we did, as the Yazi represents one of the few flavored vodkas that are worth the time and money it costs to enjoy a bottle.

Individuals will immediately be able to taste the ginger from their first sip, but before getting that far into the spirit, I would suggest letting the bouquet envelop you. The unique notes present in the Yazi provide a very fun time, in which the ginger and vodka can be picked out but many more shades of fruit and floral essences can be taken out. This is due to the fact that Yazi contains four distinct varieties of ginger, along with orange, cayenne pepper, lemon, and red pepper to make for a much more complex type of spirit. The slightly lighter flavor of the Yazi is likely due to the spirit’s 70 proof burn; where a great many vodkas ring up at 80 proof, I feel that the 70 proof bite of the Yazi is simply perfect considering the complexities of the flavors that are present here.

The Yazi works perfectly in a straight shot format, but adds some serious personality to any cocktail that would normally use vodka. Look around at your local liquor stores to see if they carry Yazi; if they do not, talk to them and see if they will be able to stock a bottle or two. If you are a fan of ginger or of vodka, Yazi should be the next spirit that you end up purchasing.
