Chris Botti – Italia

Chris Botti – Italia / 2007 Sony / 12 Tracks / http://www.chrisbotti.com / http://www.sony.com / Ah , Chris Botti. Before I received a copy of “Italia”, I had no clue who you were. For those individuals that want a short backdrop, Botti is a trumpeter that has released nine solo albums over the course of twelve years. Much of Botti’s work can be broadly categorized as “smooth jazz”, but there…

Silverchair Sweeps Aria’s

Silverchair swept the 2007 ARIA Awards in Sydney last night. They won five ARIA’s – more than any other artist this year. Most significantly the band took out the prestigious Album Of The Year award for their acclaimed Young Modern. While they’ve had five chart topping albums over their career this was actually the first time that any Silverchair release has received that honor.

OST: Heartbreak Kid

OST: Heartbreak Kid / 2007 Plan R / 14 Tracks / http://www.heartbreakkidmovie.com / For those that do not know, The Heartbreak Kid is the latest movie from the Farrelly Brothers (who are known for such “classics” as There’s Something About Mary, Me, Myself and Irene, and Dumb and Dumber). Despite the fact that these aren’t even their “bad” movies (that honor goes to Shallow Hal and Fever Pitch), the brothers…

New American Shame – S/T [ADB]

This was released in 1999 on Will Records, 8 songs, and this band is a 5 piece based in Seattle. The inside cover has a really cool looking naked punk chick in it. The band vocalist has a 80s glam sound , which is most closely related to the black crowes. The guitars are really good sounding, and the riffs are top notch. The guitarist can pull off some pretty good solos as…

John Fogerty – Revival

John Fogerty – Revival / 2007 Fantasy / 12 Tracks / http://www.johnfogerty.com / I was never that big of a fan of Credence Clearwater Revival, but both my mother and my significant other are huge fans.  What Fogerty did back in the seventies was simply not my thing, but the revival of the style, infused with a few other elements, is something much more near and dear to me. Fogerty…

My Dying Bride – Like Gods of the Sun [ADB]

Mayhem Records put this album out in 1996 or 1997. It has 10 songs, and there is no info about the band in here at all. My Dying bride is a black metal band, but owe much more to goth music then bands like paradise lost or cradle of filth. They are musically more diverse then Cradle of Filth, even adding a violin to some songs .My Dying Bride can…

Platinum-selling rap duo the Clipse have inked a deal with Rick Rubin at Sony/Columbia Records. Otep – The Ascension

Otep – The Ascension / 2007 Koch / 12 Tracks / http://www.otep.com / “Eet The Children” is the first track on “The Ascension”, and while the band comes forth with some hard music and tight arrangements, all I hear from Otep here is a revision of the Coal Chamber, Clutch, and other “hard rock” band sound made famous in the mid nineties. “Eet The Children” may have a lot of…

Rahim – The Same

Rahim – The Same / 2007 Dimension Arts / 2 Tracks / http://www.rahimrahim.org / I thought that Rahim would be a rap artist that used samples from Do The Right Thing. I was wrong. The first track on this single is “The Same”, and it shows Rahim as an act that is well versed in the instrumental style of the trippy, psychedelic (and Persian-influenced rock ) style of the late…

MxPx – On the Cover / Pokinatcha [ADB]

MxPx – On the Cover I don’t usually do reviews of pop-punk bands, but this is an indy release, so i think that it should be reviewed. This was released in 1995 on Tooth and Nail records, and it has 8 songs. These covers range from Bryan Adams, Buddy Holly, A-HA, and The Altar Boys. The cover of Summer of 69 is decent, only when compared to the original, because…

The Healing Cancer #3

The Healing Cancer #3 / 1:30 / 56M / diseased@diseasedrecords.com /I picked this up when MC Homeless stopped back in Kent. The Healing Cancer is a zine that absolutely loves its interviews, which constitute about 90% of the material in this issue. A number of foreign acts are given time that they would not normally have in an issue, and The Healing Cancer seems to bounce between rap, hardcore, and…
