Mariah Carey has been around for so long it is not funny. At this point, the only female pop star that has been around for a longer period of time off the top of my head would have to be Madonna. “The Adventures of Mimi” was a 2006 tour that netted her the highest gross of any of eir prior tours, due largely to the fact that ey performed all of eir hits. This means that “Always Be My Baby”, “One Sweet Day”, “We Belong Together”, and “Butterfly” are all present. “The Adventures of Mimi” is a live concert that is captured on DVD, and this 2 DVD set does not only feature the concert, but a number of different bonus features for Carey fans to chew on.

The 19 tracks on “The Adventures of Mimi” are all performed with the utmost care; during these songs, Carey’s voice does not cut out or sound abnormally weak. The highlight of the concert, in my eyes, has to be when Boyz II Men come on stage and perform “One Sweet Day” with Carey, in a version that strives to even surpass the studio version in terms of emotional intensity and catchiness. However interesting the live show might be, the bonus features provide even more in the way of information and provide a number of different ways for individuals to waste time with this 2-DVD set. The documentary showcasing The Adventures of Mimi tour is something that should really be seen before watching the live show, as it provides a better sense of what was happening in Carey’s life during the performance, and what was going through eir mind at the time of the tour. Other features, such as “Lovers and Haters” and the Karaoke-Style Feature, are still decent but do not capture the magic of Carey’s performance quite as well as either the live show or the documentary.

This DVD provides individuals a great introduction to Carey’s vocal abilities, and it allows long time fans of Carey’s to have another recording to cherish and love forever. For those individuals that are waiting for a new Carey album to be released, this two DVD set provides individuals with more than enough in the way of material to keep interest high all through the winter months. If you are a fan, pick this up.
