The Extremities is an incredibly fitting name for the latest project, courtesy of Toronto’s producer Fresh Kils (sampler/keyboard) and Halifax’s Uncle Fester (turntable). Simply put, there’s just so much happening on The Mint Condition, the collaboration’s newest record set for release this September, that it’s impossible not to hop on board with their groovy, eclectic brand of lounge-inspired hip-hop.

Now, don’t assume so quickly that The Mint Condition is a difficult listen. No, it’s just that The Mint Condition is so laden with the kind of smokey, graceful hip-hop that you might find yourself wondering just how extremely (pun totally intended) seducing hip-hop can really be. Take for example the first leaked track ‘Lost Souls’ – a very versatile listen, perfectly ready for backyard Bar-B-Q’s, long drives into dusk or the kind of ultra-exclusive jazz club that rewards its devotees with the kind of fresh sounds all music fans pine for. Yes, The Extremities push their listeners to not only get involved in their sound, but drink up every last drop. Guests on the album include Ali Shaheed Muhammad (A Tribe Called Quest), El Da Sensei, Supastition, Rich Kidd, Lush Life, Ghettosocks and Timbuktu. Talk about extremes.

While The Extremities take their jazz-induced brand of soulful, culturally aware hip-hop on the road throughout Eastern Canada, hype on the act will certainly continue to grow. Besides two of the founding members of Halifax’s venerable hip-hop crew, Backburner, Kils and Fester will be joined on their upcoming tour by Anthony Rinaldi on the sax, two up and coming Emcee’s which make up Magnolius, and Ambition. If the combined presence and talent of all the collaborators within The Extremities is any indication, this is an act that will be taking their unique vision even further in the future and surely, cannot be missed.
