Aside from having one of the best band names… well ever, The Dandy Warhols also spent much of the 90’s churning out great Velvet Underground inspired psychedelic pop rock that sounded like nothing any of their other contemporaries were recording at the time.
The Capitol Years culls many of the best songs from the band’s four major label records, including “Not if You Were the Last Junkie on Earth,” “Bohemian Like You” and “Godless”. Though the band never became huge in the U.S., despite moving more than two million records across the globe, the songs hold up remarkably well more than a decade later. The 14 song collection also includes a bonus track “This is the Tide,” previously unreleased and written by The Dandy Warhols’ drummer and bass player.
Though The Capitol Years likely won’t result in a whole new set of fans to discovering the band – because let’s be honest, unless they are in an iPod commercial or touring with Drake and Justin Bieber kids don’t listen to new bands – the album is a great reminder for 30-somethings to go back and rediscover some of the better bands from their college years.
