While technically not a new album from the storied Athens dance post-punk band Pylon, “Part Time Punk Sessions EP” is probably the next best thing. Pylon Reenactment Society started three years ago and is comprised of Pylon’s Vanessa Briscoe Hay and a supergroup of other Athens Indie bands, including members of Big Atomic, Casper & The Cookies, and The Glands.

This six-song set was recorded in one afternoon last December as the band was prepping for a show in Los Angeles. The songs are all culled from Pylon’s brief, but brilliant catalogue.

Hay’s voice still sounds fantastic all these years later as she growls/sings her way from “Feast of My Heart,” (the strongest track here) to the still solid “Crazy.” The only really bummer here is “Beep,” originally released in 1983, which is still almost purposefully grating once the chorus kicks in.

“Beep” aside, the “Part Time Punk Sessions EP” is a great asterisk to Pylon’s discography.
