Is video gaming high on your list of hobbies? Then you’ll love Fortnite, an online game that immerses you into a world devastated by a massive storm and populated by zombies, who make up half the population. With the other half, you must reclaim the planet by first building forts.
But the zombies won’t let you. They too want the planet, so every fort you build to defend yourselves, they tear down. Yet they’re only part of the problem. Some of your fellow players don’t cooperate. Others are only out for the glory. Others still even let in the horde, destroying you all. Let’s meet these players.
The Builder
They could care less about the future of humanity, their own, or even yours. All they care about is the thrill of building, even if the structures they build serve no purpose. A ramp to nowhere, a needlessly long balcony, and unnecessary parking lot – they’ll build it, hammering away in glee.
The Tourist
Call them lazy. Call them unhelpful. But the tourist does everything but help the rest of you to build or to defend. One minute, they’re scoping out the land for zombies. The other, they’re checking out what you’re all building. And when they eventually do something, it’s tending some shrubs. They’re here only to sight-see.
The Nutcase
Maybe they’ve got a screw loose. Or, maybe they’re just reckless. You’ll never know for sure. But this player charges at everything like a maniac. If it’s a fort, they’ll hammer away like mad. And if it’s a horde of zombies, they’ll slash and shoot away, oblivious of their safety.
The Oaf
This player never knows what to do, when to do it, or how to do it. Fight next to them in a battle, and they get themselves killed, but only after getting you killed as well. Work next to them on a fort, and they build a wall around you, sealing you in. And when, in frustration, you leave them alone, they accidentally let the zombies in.
The Show-off
A bloated ego and a thirst for glory drive this player. They’re insanely competitive. They must have the most wins and kills as well as the highest win rate and score. As for concepts like teamwork and saving humanity, they’re for the birds. To this guy, only one thing matters, and it’s to see their name on top of Fortnite Stats and Leaderboards.
The Psychopath
Maiming zombies and them watching them squirm is what the psychopath lives for. And after a while, they tire of shooting mutants to shreds and of hacking them to pieces. So for sport, they lay as traps as possible, hoping to impale on stakes, to fry with wires, or to poison with gas any unsuspecting victim. Then they sit back to watch.
The Professional
They know every trick in the book. They have an unerring aim. And when you need them, they have your back. These are the professionals, stone-cold killers who’re here to do one thing only, which is to get the job done.
The different traits of Fortnite players spice up the game. While some, like the oaf or the show-off, get on your nerves, others, like the nutcase or the psychopath, leave you laughing. There’s even a dependable professional to get you out of any rut.
