50 Cent – AYO Technology (Feat. Justin Timberlake & Timbaland) / 2007 Shady / 4 Tracks / /

I thought that 50 Cent was supposed to be hard, a ghetto warrior that was shot a shitload of times and lived to rap about it. Last time I checked, Justin Timberlake and Timbaland do not seem to be individuals that scream “street cred”. They are able to bash out catchy tracks like no one’s business, and that is the reason why they are on the track. But, is “AYO Technology” a good track? The flow of 50’s during the track seems a little plain, while Justin’s flow is the same type of lovey-dovey stuff that is present during a number of other tracks that ey is on. In fact, the only thing that screams “impressive” is the backing bit of instrumentation, which sounds as if it was cribbed off of an early eighties video game. The chorus is catchy but is repeated too many times; this minor nit-pick is decreased in importance in the post-chorus flow, which kicks things up to a next level. The inclusion of as screwed and chopped sound for a few seconds is used tastefully, and the track is crafted into something that is a halfway decent single for 50 Cent. This will not be as big of a splash as any of eir prior tracks, but will reach nearly the same levels of popularity since this is eir first single off of “Curtis”.
