Tender Forever – Wider

Tender Forever – Wider / 2007 K / 12 Tracks / http://www.takemybreathaay.net / http://www.krecs.com / You know, the cover of “Wider” does not immediately give individuals a good sense of what the album will ultimately sound like. The lead singer is sitting in front of a cardboard (or paper) representation of a fire, in an meditative pose. When one actually puts the CD in, the cover of the album actually…

A Letter To No One

This is the most depressed I’ve ever been. I can barely move, I’ve been so affected by this. I haven’t written anything candidly for a while. Sure, Danica and I are doing fine, but the rest of my world is falling apart. I failed my last shot at being in the Ph.D. program at Kent State. I’m appealing, but I doubt I’ll get this overturned. Most people know that my…

ARC #2

ARC #2 / $4 / :45 / 108M /http://www.artrevcult.com / 4996 Broadway, Suite 4L, New York NY 10034-1669 / When I first picked up this issue, I really wondered where the “Revolution” part of the title was. I noticed a number of music (culture pieces), and some art (the architecture of Rafi Segal), but the political leanings of this zine really missed me until I had a better chance to…

A Very Special Christmas: The 20th Anniversary Music Video Collection

A Very Special Christmas: The 20th Anniversary Music Video Collection / 2007 Special Olympics / 12 Tracks / http://www.specialolympics.org I admit, I was not really paying attention to when the first A Very Special Christmas came out in 1987 – I had just turned 4, and my attention was on a host of other things. Alter Bridge – Blackbird

Alter Bridge – Blackbird / 2007 Republic / 13 Tracks / http://www.altarbridge.com / http://www.universalrepublic.com / As most individuals may know, Alter Bridge consists of three-fourths of what was Creed. To those ranks, Myles Kennedy (formerly of The Mayfield Four) provides lead vocals and guitar. “Blackbird” is the band’s second album, and the disc’s first single is “Rise Today”. For those wrestling fans that happen to read NeuFutur, “Rise Today” was…

Hellcat Signs Civet

“The Four Girls of Civet Have that Pretty-in-a-Dirty-Way Thing Going on Like They Own it” (Exclaim) Civet, a wicked Long Beach, CA foursome aptly self-described as “femme fatale punk rock,” has joined the Hellcat ranks, home to fellow agitators Tiger Army, HorrorPops and Rancid. “We are honored to join the Hellcat family and to be associated with the artists that continue to keep punk rock alive,” says the band.

The Staple Singers – The 25th Day of December

The Staple Singers – The 25th Day of December / 2007 Concord / 12 Tracks / http://www.concordmusicgroup.com / I must admit that I was not that familiar with The Staple Singers before receiving this CD. For anyone that is too young to remember The Staple Singers, they were a gospel group that released albums for over twenty-five years. It took them about 12 years to actually break onto the charts;…

Angry and Literate #1

I picked up this zine a long time ago at an infoshop in Lansing, Michigan (this would mean probably March of 2002). I finally read through it now, and the zine is okay, pretty much standard for a submission based magazine. Tons of poetry litter this publication, almost a 60/40 distribution, which makes this zine pretty hard to go through without getting tired with it. What really helps this magazine…

JETBOY Takes OffÂ…again!!

Frank Meyer, Editor, KNAC.COM, put it this way: “Lipstick, lace, leather, cheap booze, cheaper dames, low slung guitars, and hair…lots and lots of hair. This was the Sunset Strip music scene in the ‘80s. A poisonous cocktail of post-Mötley Crüe metal meets Van Halen influenced cock rock, served with a healthy dose of Hanoi Rocks pout and New York Dolls trash. The Hollywood, CA scene held a lot of weight,…

Pink Floyd – Piper At The Gates of Dawn

Pink Floyd – Piper At The Gates of Dawn / 2007 Capitol / 11 Tracks / http://www.capitolrecords.com / Any Pink Floyd fan knows that “Piper At The Gates of Dawn” was the first album created by Pink Floyd. Casual fans that just know Pink Floyd from “The Wall” and “Pulse”-era recordings will struggle to find commonality between those albums and “Piper”. 2007 marks the 40th anniversary of the original release…
