There are some things that seem like they’re in our control, and then there are others that seem forever out of reach. Of these, none can be quite as pressing or as confidence busting as our looks. We’re shown so many images of perfect looking humans in print and video advertising, that it’s no wonder that sometimes even the best of us can feel a little low about our appearances. However, there are two things to remember. The first is that looks are nowhere near as important as some people would have you believe. The second is that looking your best isn’t as baffling as you might think: you just need to follow a few simple rules, as we see below.

What You Can Control

If you’re looking at Brad Pitt or Angelina Jolie (to pick just two glamorous stars) and feeling inadequate, then stop! These people are superhuman, and you – along with 99.9% of the rest of the population – will never be able to compete with them. You can’t change your genes (not yet, anyway). Instead of focusing on the unalterable aspects (such as how high your cheekbones are), focus on what you can control. You’re in charge of what you wear, your teeth, your all-around level of fitness; you’re not in control of how tall you are. Focus your energies on the areas of your appearance where you can actually make a difference; paying attention to the areas that you can’t is pointless!  Supplementing with protein shakes for guys is one way to take control of your situation.

Working Out

There are a million and one different body shapes, and that’s just fine. But whichever shape you’re naturally supposed to be, you still have an impact on what version of shape that is. There can be a pretty big swing in shape and size, no matter how big your bones on or what shape your genes have predisposed you to. As such, you’ll be well-served by hitting the gym and getting into shape (again, whatever that may be). It’s not always the most fun thing to do, especially after a long day at work, but if you can get past the initial “I don’t want to do this” mindset, then you’ll find that there’s much to enjoy – you’ll look better, have more confidence, and be happier, too.

Know your Size

We’re talking about size a lot in this article, but it is important. It doesn’t matter what size you are, but how you manage it is! Take your clothing. Studies have shown that a not insignificant portion of the population doesn’t really understand how to buy clothes for their size! Not having the right size clothing can make you look awkward and uncomfortable. As such, you’ll be well-served by understanding what to look for when it comes to clothes shopping. If needed, speak to an expert – they’ll be able to tell you a few simple rules to look for in an item.

Dress to Impress

Once you know what size you’re buying, it’s time to dress to impress! Clothes make a massive difference to our all-around attractiveness; indeed, very often other people don’t really see a person’s face or anything else – they see the clothes (we’re a judgemental bunch). If it’s been a while since you hit the stores, then it might be time for a shopping spree. It’s always tempting to delay splashing the cash on new clothes, especially if you’re trying to save money, but there’s nothing quite like stepping out with a new set of threads on! If you don’t want a complete wardrobe overhaul, take a look at your shoes and pants; if the bottom half of your body is well-dressed, then everything will naturally fall into place.

Get the Right Products

There’s no shortage of beauty products on sale, that’s for sure! Indeed, it can be a little bit overwhelming. However, it’s worth taking the time to find the ones that are correct for you. Once you’ve found a perfect match, it’ll be a part of your life for years! The two main areas you should be focusing on are your face and your hair; these are the most important areas. Remember, though, that it’s not just the makeup and hair products that’ll make you beautiful; how you handle them will also have an impact. If you’re using multiple hair products, then make sure you have a bottle of shampoo with keratin in your bathroom; it’ll restore what the products have taken out. It might take a little bit of trial and error to find the products that best work with your skin and hair, but it’s worth the effort.

Beauty Sleep

A good night’s sleep is our first layer of defence against the signs of ageing, and a key part of having healthy looking skin. And what’s more is that this is one the simplest things we can control! Aim to get around seven hours of uninterrupted sleep each night. If you’re a person that usually struggles to reach the land of nod, then have a look at your pre-bed routine. A couple of hours without technology, a relaxing bath, and a room that’s quiet and without distractions will all make it much easier to fall asleep. Also, keep in mind what effects those weekly parties will be having on your body. It’s fine to stay up until the early hours when your eighteen; when you’re in your thirties, the signs will begin to show!

Focus on the Mind

Beauty exists inside and out. Even the most beautiful person on earth can seem ugly if they have a terrible attitude! As part of looking your best, take some time to ensure that you’re feeling in a happy, confident headspace. There’s nothing more attractive than a big smile. If you’re feeling the pressure too much, look at venturing into the outdoors. Being in nature make us happy, gets us fit, and, if it’s sunny, will give us a natural glow that’ll have us looking at our radiant best.

Take the above tips, and you’ll be on your way to looking your best in no time.
