Staying healthy means a lot of things. It might mean staying financially healthy by learning how to use a money transfer service like Remitly. It could mean staying mentally healthy by limiting the amount of time you spend on social media.

However, staying physically healthy is commonly considered the biggest challenge, especially when you’re on vacation. It’s easy to get outside the comfort zone of your everyday life and let your health become less of a priority. Not only can that cause problems for you later on down the road, it will also make your vacation miserable if you get sick!

Instead of ignoring your health and doing and eating whatever you want, follow these tips and you can stay healthy no matter where your travels take you.

Don’t Throw Your Diet out the Window

People love to throw their diet out the window during special occasions and holidays. People love to throw their diet out the window on vacation too. That’s a bad idea.

Not only will it be harder to get back on your diet when you return home, inundating your body with fatty, high-sugar foods when you aren’t used to them can make you feel sluggish while you’re on vacation. That’s not the way you should feel when you should be busy exploring a new city!

Instead, try and make smart food choices throughout the day. Strive to include as many fruits and vegetables as you can into every meal. Treat yourself to something small once every day or two.

Get a Little Exercise

If eating healthy goes out the window the second you get on the plane, you can bet that exercise is not far behind. Although it may be tempting to sit on a beach chair and sip piña coladas all day every day, you definitely shouldn’t.

That doesn’t mean you have to schedule demanding workouts either! A few workout ideas include:

  • Pack a resistance band or a jump rope so you can work out in your room
  • Book a room in a hotel with a gym
  • Wear a pedometer and count your steps
  • Take a hike in a local park
  • Rent a bike, a kayak, or learn how to surf

Bring Along the Right Vitamins

Eating right is a great way to make sure you’re on top of your game while you’re on vacation, but getting the right nutrients when you’re eating out for every meal can be difficult. That’s why you should bring vitamins.

A multivitamin is a good choice, but you have other choices as well. Consider taking ginger and garlic to ward off germs on your flight, valerian root so you can get a good night’s sleep, or ginseng to help you get over jet lag. Vitamin C is a good choice too because it can help keep you from getting sick while you’re on vacation.

Don’t Overschedule Your Vacation

Going somewhere new on vacation is really exciting. You only get so much time, so you probably want to do everything there possibly is to do in the area. That’s not a good idea.

Stress is a big problem for many people who travel, and all that stress can negatively impact your health. It can make you more tired than usual and it can make you more susceptible to germs.

Instead of trying to pack an exciting experience into every minute of the day, choose a few important things to check out and schedule breaks in between. Go back to the hotel and take a power nap or stop into the local coffee shop for a drink in between the museum in the morning and the night market. By doing less you can have just as much fun without all the stress.

Get Travel Insurance

Travel insurance can help you get reimbursed if you have to cancel your trip or something happens to your bag, but it’s much more than that. You can get emergency medical coverage and accidental death or dismemberment insurance.

This type of insurance can ensure you return home happy and healthy without massive medical bills. It’s a must for people who will be traveling for a long period of time, or people who are traveling near a war-torn or third-world country.

Staying healthy is a challenge at the best of times. It can be nearly impossible when you’re on vacation! With these tips, staying healthy won’t seem so hard when you’re away, so you can return home feeling better than ever.
