Do you have a friend or significant other that plays the air drums all day, can’t listen to a favorite song without blasting it and singing along, and who is never without earphones in? We all know at least one person like this and, chances are, this person is happy. Music just does that to us human beings. When it comes time to get this person a gift, why not take a note from his or her musical playbook? Give him a present that piques his passion. Read on for five ways to give the gift of music.

1. Give the Gift of Experience

Something she can open is great, of course, but why not take her to her favorite concert, a raucous festival, or a night at the opera? This will keep her toes tapping for months if not years to come. A great way to keep any eye on this is through social media. Make sure to follow the bands and events she loves so you get alerted when this group or show is in your area. She’ll not only be tickled that you took her out for a wonderful evening on the town, but she’ll be amazed at how thoughtful a gift this was.

Everybody agrees that there are no age limitations when it comes to learning a new instrument. However, the sooner you find your passion, the better. When it comes to music, there’s a universe out there filled with diversity. There are many perfect alternatives for kids (or adults) besides the instruments which are chosen most of the time; Guitar / Piano / Violin. It’s preferred (in my opinion) to go through as many as possible until you find the one that suits you best.’

2. Create a Visualizer Presentation

Are you throwing a party for your significant other who loves music? Use a Magic Music Visualizer to create a fun and funky program that creates geometric shapes that move in time with his favorite music, whether that’s rap music or Indie Pop. If he loves the presentation you create, you can download it for him using YouTube or Vimeo … or, better yet, get him his own Visualizer. Guests will also love the extra dimension this adds to parties.

3. Can You Hear Me Now?

While we all surely love that iconic scene in Say Anything when John Cusack holds the boombox over his head so his love can hear the song he’s playing for her, these days sharing music is so much easier. And you can take it with you with ease. If your friend or significant other doesn’t have speakers that she can hook her phone or WiFi up to yet, this is a wonderful gift. And she’ll surely think of you as she’s listening at work, at the beach, or wherever her heart desires. If you want to go all out, consider going the route of Alexa or Google Home. On top of listening to her favorite music, these home virtual assistants can do so much more. As this wirecutter.com article notes of Alexa, “Using nothing but the sound of your voice, you can play music, search the Web, create to-do and shopping lists, shop online, get instant weather reports, and control popular smart-home products…” She can also listen to podcasts, which has become such a popular pastime these days. This is a musical gift and so much more.

4. Subscription Services FTW

While premium music subscription services aren’t all that pricey, they can add up over time. Do you know whether your friend likes Spotify or Pandora? If not, do a little digging. While plenty of other subscription services like iHeartRadio and last.fm have popped up over the years, Pandora and Spotify still rule this market. Digital Trends did an analysis and found that Spotify beats Pandora when it comes to sharing on social media, what you get for the paid versions, and user interface while Pandora beats Spotify when it comes to discovering new music and overall cost. The music catalog for both came in a tie. With these services being this comparable, you might consider just asking what he likes better and then going for it.

5. Love Those Lessons

“You can’t teach an old dog new tricks” is a horrible saying, as it’s just not true, especially when it comes to music. No matter what his age, if he’s mentioned that he’s always wanted to learn piano, sax, guitar, etc., getting him lessons could be just the impetus he needs to get going. He can always give a try and decide it wasn’t for him, but if he tries it and sticks with it until he’s got it down, you’ll both reap the benefits of this new skill.

Music is one of the most beautiful ways to show someone how much you love them. Try one or all of these ways to give the gift of music and watch your recipient bask in the glow of a thoughtful present.
