Growing up can be daunting. When you are a kid, you wish you were older because you love the idea of being an adult and having more freedom, but that ideology soon changes when you reach adulthood and realize that with jobs, bills and social obligations you actually have a lot less freedom than you ever thought. Instead of simply looking back at your care-free childhood days, why not live-in nostalgia by enjoying all the things you loved as a child?

1.   Playing Games

Who said adults cannot play computer games or run around the field with their friends for entertainment? Whether you adore board games, or playing on a console, you are never too old to appreciate a game!

2.   Halloween

Americans adore Halloween, no matter what their age is, it is just tradition to celebrate Halloween to its fullest extent in the United States. Children love spending Halloween night trick or treating or attending a spooky Halloween party where they can win delicious candy and play fun games. Equally, adults enjoy decorating their homes with creepy decorations and stocking up on candy for the keen trick or treaters (or yourself!).

Halloween is the one time of year when you can show your adoration for all things scary or cheesy, whether that is in the form of binge watching your favorite horror movies on Netflix or attending a scare festival.

3.   Lego

Lego is not just for children; it is for anyone who wants to build on their concentration and problem-solving skills. In fact, there are adults out there who spend their spare time building Lego sculptures and enterprises, for instances they are hobbies of Mike Savage New Canaan resident.

You do not need to reminisce about the days when you would come back from school, and build a giant statue made from Lego, because you can do just that as soon as you next get home from work.

4.   Being Silly

Whoever said you cannot be silly or goofy when you are an adult is wrong. Silliness is most associated with children because they are typically more immature than adults, and less informed. However, you can be silly at any age because it is fun to be playful sometimes, if you are able to be professional as and when it is required, then being silly and playing jokes can improve your mental health, stress levels and help you to maintain social relationships (just don’t go overboard!)

5.   Experimenting

So, you have seen a video of somebody making neon green slime which you would love to make yourself. What is stopping you? Experiments should not be left in the school science lab, so long as they are appropriate experiments and safe to do at home. By experimenting with new creations, whether that is making your first ever slime or attempting to bake a carrot cake for the first time, you are enabling yourself to develop your skill set. It would also be a fantastic idea to get involved as a family with fun activities you can all enjoy.

6.   Daydreaming

Most children daydream at some point during the day, whether that is when they are meant to be doing homework or on a long journey. But the truth is, everyone daydreams and it is completely acceptable. Just because you are older does not mean your imagination has gone, you could be sixty with the same amazing imagination that you had at aged ten you just need to turn off all the demands on your time to access it again.

7.   Watching Cartoons

From SpongeBob SquarePants and The Simpsons to Loony Tunes, there are a huge range of brilliant cartoons that may sit as a distant memory, within the deep depths of your mind. Having children is the best excuse you have to spend your spare time watching cartoons and enjoy every second of it. Even if you are not a parent, you have the freedom to watch your favorite childhood cartoons if you so wish to, especially as streaming services gives you access to some that may not be in production anymore.

8.   Candy

When you are a child, there is not much better than going to the store to buy candy. When you are small, the candy shelf appears as an overwhelming array of beautiful illustrations and bright colors, you were always disappointed when your parents say you can only have one bar of candy and not five. When you are an adult though, with your own mind and your own cash to spend, you have the total freedom to go wild on the candy isle.

9.   Going to the Beach

As much as it is great fun building a sandcastle and collecting shells, it is also a memorable experience to be old enough to venture into the ocean.

Things you can do at the beach as an adult:

  • Sunbathe
  • Swim in the ocean unattended
  • Get involved with water sports

Whether you decide to go paddle boarding or ride on a jet-ski, there are a wide variety of activities you can get involved with at the beach as an adult, that you would not have been allowed to experience as a young child.

10.               Spooky Stories

Remember asking your friends or siblings to share the spookiest stories they knew, during a slumber party? It was always so exciting!

Fortunately for adults, you are old enough to watch spooky stories in the form of horror movies, although they are probably a little more terrifying than the creepy tales you were told as a kid.

11.               Christmas

When you are a child, Christmas is magical. It is magical in the sense that when you are a child, you believe in Santa Claus, you believe that on Christmas Eve there will be a magical sleigh riding through the sky to deliver presents to each child across the entire globe. You probably even believe that Rudolf himself has taken a bite out of the carrot in your kitchen while you were sleeping. Even though you probably will not believe those things when you are an adult, you can still appreciate Christmas as a time to celebrate with your family and friends. After all, that is what Christmas is all about.
