Introducing a concept of faith through more than lyrics is a task every Christian contemporary songwriter has to deal with, but rarely does a player do it quite as well as Lady Redneck does. Her new single, the simple “After the Rain, You’ll Find the Son,” has a lot in common with the surreal country movement we’re hearing more and more out of in 2022, but with one caveat; it’s lyrical twist is definitively religious in tone. The uplifting nature of the verses aside, everything here is constructed to inspire catharsis, which is something that just can’t be said for most pop music nowadays.

The vibe set forth by the beat in “After the Rain, You’ll Find the Son” is one that makes us feel like there’s an incendiary battle between good and evil transpiring on the other side of every harmony, but it doesn’t take anything away from the depth of this singer’s vocal. On the contrary, there’s nothing included in this arrangement that doesn’t contribute something to the grander narrative, especially in terms of emotional context. That takes a lot more than natural skill – it requires an attention to detail that most of the artists in the underground do not have.

This lead vocal is perhaps the most versatile I’ve heard from Lady Redneck since she made her debut, but I wouldn’t say that it’s a complete departure from the conceptual manner in which she delivers her verses in the other songs from her new EP. If anything, she wants to use this single to exhibit just how much she can get out of her range, and truth be told, it’s quite a lot. I’m curious to hear how she comes into her own in the next few years, but judging from this performance, it’s going to be amazing.

These harmonies are almost angelic in tone, and I like the way they’re being showcased in the master mix. I normally wouldn’t want as much out of the lead guitar parts she’s straddling in the chorus, but this is a situation where a little bit of indulgence thrown in amidst the minimalism makes a lot of sense. If there’s a singer who can withstand excess and still sound like an efficient player it’s this one, and we likely wouldn’t have known as much without this performance in “After the Rain, You’ll Find the Son.”

I can’t wait to hear more of what Lady Redneck is experimenting with at the moment, and although there’s a lot of room for her to keep evolving as a lyricist and composer, I would be lying if I said she wasn’t ready for the next stage of the primetime with the sound she’s rocking in “After the Rain, You’ll Find the Son.” This is a turning point track and a good measurement of where she’s at right now artistically, and if you haven’t listened to her work before this March, I think it’s a terrific single to introduce who she really is as a player.
