The Hollywood Sqaures (Nintendo Wii)

There are very few game show games worth their salt. In most cases, these types of titles merely consist of a mini-game that in some nominal way resembles the format or the style of the game show that they are aping. However, the Nintendo Wii version of popular game show re-do The Hollywood Squares seems to merit additional playing. Whether it be the colorful graphics, intuitive game play, or catchy…

Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes (Playstation 3)

I’m a big fan of Dynasty Warriors, but I feel as if the games have too much in common with each other. This means that subsequent games in the line tend to escape my notice, but that titles that look to improve on the formula are truly special. Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes, and particularly the Playstation 3 version, does just that. For those that are not familiar, Sengoku Basara is…

Seek And Find (iPad App)

Hide and Seek games are a dime a dozen in the AppStore these days, but this time around, with “Seek And Find”, we are treated to a good quality mini-game style game. This game made for the iPad is quite a joy for me and my significant other. We tested it this evening and found it to be rather fun and entertaining. The game play is simple enough, though challenging.…

Sonic 4: Episode 1 – iOS Edition

So, it’s sixteen years later, and Sega Corp. finally put out a sonic game worth something. I have to say right here, and right now that back in the day; I was on Team Sonic. I liked Mario, sure, and I even had me a SNES, but Sonic & Tails always had my geeky, blue furry heart. One could really imagine my excitement to hear that Sega was going to…

Phineas and Ferb Ride Again (Nintendo DS)

Anyone that has children that watch Disney or has had time to be bored and flip around their cable have likely seen the oddly-animated show, Phineas and Ferb. Those that are in the first subset may have bought the original Phineas and Ferb title for the DS, back in February of 2009. Phineas and Ferb Ride Again is a considerably different title from the original offering, and pushes the Nintendo…

Truth or Lies (Xbox 360)

It seems as if a number of the different game shows (and traditional party games) that have been transformed into video games have been particularly poor. Whether it be early games about Classic Concentration or Jeopardy, or slightly newer titles about Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, it seems as if the titles are mainly made to capitalize on the next big thing. However, THQ has seemed to put their…

Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock (Xbox 360)

There are few game franchises that are able to continually reinvent themselves as are Guitar Hero. This is not done at the expense of previous game play, but each addition to the Guitar Hero line feels as if there just is something new and fresh bubbling just under the surface. When Activision sent over a copy of review, we immediately set the guitar up and began to see what had…

Gormiti: Lords of Nature (Nintendo DS)

I know I must be getting old. I was not even aware that Gormiti: Lords of Nature was based off a children’s television franchise. For those like me, this does not mean that Gormiti: Lords of Nature is a title that can be slept on. Rather, it represents a black sheep in terms of contenders for the best NDS game of the year. Also released for the Wii, Gormiti represents…

Front Mission Evolved (Xbox 360)

We have had the chance to review a number of different Square Enix titles in the time since we began working with them, but I know that I still think of the company as one that publishes RPGs. Front Mission Evolved, a title that was developed by Double Helix Games (Silent Hill: Homecoming, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra) is the latest game to have the Square Enix stamp of…

Naughty Bear (Xbox 360)

I personally like when different companies marry “cute” with absolute intense, gory, or otherwise horrific themes. It’s a nice chiaroscuro, and one that livens up typically played-out genres and styles of games. Naughty Bear does just that, setting players in control of the titular character that has been utterly spurned by Daddles, whom is having a birthday party. Instead of keeping eir mouth shut, Naughty Bear looks to wreak revenge…

Chuck Gnome; or how much will travelocity sue for? (iPhone Game)

Lately I have been testing out a new game that just hit the AppStore called, Chuck Gnome. It is a visual treat for sure, and the game play couldn’t be easier/crack candy coated, but it does leave me asking one question; Does Travelocity know about this? I know it’s unfair to lump all Gnomes into a group, I mean Travelocity wasn’t the first place to feature a Gnome wearing a…

Space Empires: Battle for Supremacy (Facebook)

Social network games tend to be something of a breed all their own. Truthfully, I can barely tolerate the vast majority of them. However, I am aware that my opinion is the minority when it comes to this subject, and I cannot deny that these pseudo video games have a big market. The newest of these games Space Empires: Battle for Galactic Supremacy, sticks to familiar formulas and really doesn’t…

Dementium II (Nintendo DS)

There are a number of different ways that Dementium II is better than its preceding title, Dementium: The Ward (2007). Aside from the additional weaponry that players will encounter in the title, the mapping of Dementium II removes some of the more annoying problems encountered with the original effort.

Puzzle Agent (PC Game)

When I first saw Puzzle Agent, I had a good feeling. Coming from the same studio that gave the world the generally loved Sam and Max series (TellTale games), Puzzle Agent is a point and click adventure game designed around the graphic novels of Graham Annabelle. This first episode is a pilot, and from here Telltale will decide whether or not the series will continue. Perhaps the games biggest challenge…

Hexalex Review

Nathan Gray has decided it was time to reinvent the scrambled, jumbled, and sometimes infuriating pass-time that is dominated by scrabble and it’s clones. Putting words together for point value on a board is nothing new. In fact it’s been done for quite sometime, but it has almost always been done on a square grid board with only two directions to choose from. Hexalex brings a new twist to the…

Sketch Nation Shooter; or The Tale Of The Lazy, But Ingenious Developer (iPhone Game)

App developer Engineous Games has done something very awesome and interesting in a retro sort of way. I’m of course talking about the game entitled Sketch Nation Shooter. The game is an old school 2-D shooter game with an equally cool and retro twist. The game features good game mechanics, decent albeit hand drawn graphics, and a few really cool extra features.

Toribash (PC Game)

I first discovered Toribash about 2 years ago and I have loved it ever since. The game has gone through some changes since then (and even more since it was first released back in 2006) but the basic framework remains untouched and even after two years I still find myself firing up this little known indy gamin gem a few times a week. It’s rare that I would use words…

Super Monkey Ball 2 (iPhone Game)

In Sega’s sequel to the smash hit, Super Monkey Ball, Sega has returned to it’s roots in a big way. Keeping this new sequel simple, and true to the original, adding new characters, and a cute set of mini-games, this game is a home run for one of our childhood heroes. And by hero, I mean Sega of course.

Rock Paper Sumo (Facebook)

Rock Paper Sumo is a new Facebook game from Firm studios, in concept the idea is a great one and sounds like it would be a blast, the execution suffers from similar problems to most Facebook games though. What problem is that? To put it plainly, not much happens in RPS. Unless of course you count clicking things that have no instant effect, and waiting.

Skelanimals Dance Party: Keep The Party Alive (We Hope)…

Independent game developer, Flying Penguin, has partnered up with those cute, cuddly, and somewhat creepy critters called Skelanimals in a new rhythm based game for the iOS platform. Priced at a decent $2.99, here in the USA, this game isn’t cheap enough for an impulse by, but if you’ve got kids like I wish I did, it’s not a break the bank, pull grandpa’s gold tooth and sell it at…
