Summer Girl has an absolutely timeless sound, with The High Plains Drifters linking together Roy Orbison, Jimmy Buffett, and a bit of later Beach Boys. Including steel drums to the band’s traditional guitars, drum, and bass is a massive victory here, as this song is able to expand upon the HPD’s inimitable style while keeping things absolutely within the band’s wheelhouse. The video (below) does a fantastic job in illustrating the narrative that is laid down during the single. We’re loving the vibrant hues, a clear nod to the larger-than-life instrumentation incorporated throughout Summer Girl.
We’ve previously covered The High Plains Drifters’ Alone On Christmas Day, He Reminds Me Of You, Since You’ve Been Gone and The One That Got Away.
