SanTan Brewing turns expired beer into hand sanitizer

Reposted from SanTan’s Public Relations firm, Big Dill. SanTan Brewing Company announced today a partnership with Crescent Crown Distributing to recycle over 16,000 gallons of draft beer that will not be delivered to Arizona bars and restaurants.  The beer will instead be distilled to produce 400 gallons of medical grade hand sanitizer. The majority of which will be donated to HonorHealth, and the City of Chandler. The community will be…

Meridian Vanilla Stout (Ecliptic Brewing)

Meridian begins with hints of wheat and toasted malt on its nose, with a fair amount of tannish head and considerable lacing as one starts into their first sip. The toastiness of this malt expands as one takes that first quaff, with subsequent pulls bringing a bit more bitterness into the mix. There is a rich body and a thicker mouthfeel to Meridian than other similar dry / irish stouts…

Fredersdorfer (Seedstock Brewery)

Pouring with a orange-brown to mahogany coloration, Seedstock (Denver)’s Fredersdorker immediately yields hints of grain and wheat in its initial bouquet. The Fredersdorfer style is a call back to the first half of the 19th century; this German style links together sweetness (from molasses) with a bit of a spicy, peppery hop bite. Hitting at a 7.5% ABV, this brew will keep one warm during the last vestiges of winter…

Sedna (Tiramisu Stout)

Ecliptic has just released Sedna, their imperial, tiramisu-flavored stout. The nose of Sedna is heavy on the toasted malt with just hints of a sweeter side evident before one cracks into the brew. The 8.5% ABV of Sedna is masterfully hidden. Hints of bitterness peek through at points, making this the perfect effort to quaff while eating strongly-flavored fare (Thai, Greek) or cheeses and charcuterie. Sedna does not move into…

Founders Brewing Brings Back Frangelic Mountain Brown

Press Release replicated from Gregory Vine. Founders Brewing Co. has announced the return of Frangelic Mountain Brown to the lineup beginning in December 2019. Last bottled in 2012, this deliciously sweet and nutty coffee brown ale brewed with hazelnut coffee quickly became a favorite amongst beer fans and inspired Founders to continue pushing the coffee and beer envelope. “Finally, we get to bring back one of my favorite coffee beers…

Funky Monks (Weyerbacher)

As many of our long-time readers know, we love any sort of Belgian-styled beer that one can put in front of us. The tripel may be tied with a Belgian strong for our favorite. Pennsylvania’s Weyerbacher has made their own riff on the Belgian style with their Funky Monks, a soured tripel. The 9.3% ABV of the brew is hidden masterfully, with the trio of phenolic bite, sour tartness, and…

Five Years / Five Beers (Ecliptic / Firestone Walker)

Pouring with a hazy goldenrod coloration and a fair amount of whitish head, this Hazy Double IPA from Ecliptic and Firestone Walker is incredibly well-balanced. The beer is able to take up equal parts from traditional West Coast India Pale Ale and modern juicy IPA styles. This means there are solid notes of pine resin, tropical fruits, and wheat elements that gradually come into focus as one continues along with…

Proximity Malt and Ska Brewing Collaborate on Green Silo Saison

Last month Ska Brewing and Proximity Malt collaborated on a Dark Rye Saison, Green Silo Saison, to recognize their partnership. Named for Ska Brewing’s new green silo filled with Proximity Malt, this beer was available in limited 12-ounce canned 6-packs beginning on January 11. Ska Brewing supports Proximity Malt’s commitment to shorten supply chains by providing local, sustainable, and consistently malted barley, so much so that they added a large…

Citradonkulous (Wiley Roots)

Along with the brewery’s slushes, we received a can of Wiley Roots (Greeley, Colorado)’s Citradonkulous. This double IPA (8.4% ABV) is one of the best brews we’ve reviewed in 2018, due to the sheer depth of flavors that it contains. This is even more impressive when one considers that Citradonkulous does not contain any fruit material. The beer pours with a opaque tangerine to goldenrod coloration and a small amount…

BHC DIPA (Ska Brewing)

BHC DIPA, a double IPA released by Ska Brewing (Durango, Colorado) is well-balanced, linking together the traditional hoppy, piney, and floral elements of an India Pale Ale with a bit of juiciness. By hitting both of these marks, Ska is able to make something that any fan of hop-forward beers can appreciate. With an 8% ABV, the specific array of flavors that have been imparted upon this brew are extraordinarily…

Stopping by Strange Craft Beer Company (Denver, CO)

While we have had beers sent our way for NeuFutur nearly a decade now, actually visiting breweries is a fairly new frontier for us. Luckily, we were able to join up with Emily from RadCraft to see what was going on at Strange Craft Brewery. Head brewer Tyler Bies has crafted a considerably wide collection of efforts available both year-round and seasonally in the Denver area.

Oskar Blues Grill & Brew – Denver

Oskar Blues has constantly helped our beer review section grow over the years, allowing us to enjoy a variety of their brews, including their IPA, Chubna, Death By Coconut, Hotbox Coffee Porter and Pinner. We were able to stop in to their new location during our trip to the Denver area. As soon as we walked in the door, we marveled at the decorations and polish of the bar, tables,…

Blonde Porter (Perrin Brewing)

We were fortunate enough to receive a trio of cans from Michigan’s Perrin Brwing a few weeks back. One of their brews – their N.E.-inspired IPA, Peach Bellini, will be covered shortly. This time out, we had a chance to crack in to their draft-only Blonde Porter. The brew pours with a small amount of head and a yellow to gold coloration. This porter’s initial nose is sweet up front…

Stoutella | Knee Deep Brewing Company

Stoutella is Knee Deep Brewing Company’s (Auburn, CA) chocolate hazelnut milk stout.  The beer pours with a dark brown coloration and a fairly small head that dissipates fairly quickly. The presence of the hazelnuts in Stoutella calms down the tendency of milk stouts to be on the sweeter side of things through the presence of a fair amount of bitterness. There is a diverse set of flavors that are presented throughout…

Gran Sport Porter (COOP Ale Works)

It’s al;ways exciting to get something for review from a brewery that is new to you. It’s doubly exciting when they are fairly close to you (the brewery is located in Oklahoma City). COOP Ale Works’ Gran Sport Porter pours with a dark, rich brown coloration and a small amount of off-white head. The beer’s initial nose is a bit nutty, with bits of toasted male poking through. The full…

PCT Porter (Crux Fermentation)

Crux Fermentation’s PCT Porter pours with a dark brown coloration and a small amount of tannish head. There is a bit of toasted malt that is present in the initial bouquet. Crux has amped up the bitterness of the traditional porter style, avoiding much of the cloying sweetness that is present with traditional efforts in the style. The strong coffee and nut elements that permeate PCT Porter make for a…

Callisto (Blackcurrant Tripel)

While I feel it is a bit contentious, we’ve not had much luck in the past with fruited tripels. When we used to go to Pittsburgh fairly regularly, a local brewery had an effort in that vein that was pretty well thought-of, and I felt that it was incredibly middle of the road. That was particularly sad because a good tripel is one of those brews that I can get…

2017 Canadian Breakfast Stout (Founders)

The last time that Canadian Breakfast Stout (aka CBS) was released, masses of beer traders hoarded the bottle so by the time that Founders announced that the brew was coming back, bottles were selling for hundreds of dollars. This time around, Founders has announced that this imperial stout will be made available throughout the entirety of its’ distribution footprint. As a result, a much larger set of craft beer aficionados…
