Piano Ownership

Used Yamaha Pianos are hard to find with any sort of quality. There are a few listings that can be found, but the prices that are being charged is exorbitant. To get a Yamaha piano at the proper price and quality, one has to go through a company. Look around and see what you can find – I can guarantee that there will be a firm that provides pianos are a…

Collision Earth (DVD) Review

Collision Earth is a film that blends together sci-fi and disaster movies in a way that is seemingly realistic. The title links together up and coming actors (Diane Farr of Numb3rs, Andrew Airlie of Reaper) in a title that draws from films like Armageddon and Apollo 13.  Collision Earth captures the drama when Mercury is set into motion; when a comet strikes the Sun, Mercury is the planet unlucky enough…

Two-Lane Blacktop (Blu-Ray Special Edition)

The Blu-Ray Special Edition of 1971’s Two-Lane Blacktop is the definitive edition of this James Taylor / Dennis Wilson (yes, the singers’) film. During Two-Lane Blacktop, the duo are paired with Laurie Bird and are thrown into a cross-country race. The title itself seems to represent the high-water mark conceptualized by Hunter S. Thompson in Fear and Loathing; there are nods to the hippie subculture as well as the…

Creep Van (DVD)

Creep Van is a tale about a possessed vehicle that would like to see nothing better than the brutal dispatch of anyone that attempts to change it. An unlikely band of people are saddled with the gargantuan chore of destroying the titular mean of conveyance despite the lethality of the van. The DVD version of Creep Van benefits from an incredibly sharp transfer that is further bolstered through the…

Anger Management – Season One (DVD)

Charlie Sheen supporters – the few that still remained after his very entertaining implosion in 2011 – were quick to point to the ratings of his new TV show, Anger Management,  that he was back on top again. Well, they were sort of right. The ratings for Sheen’s new FX series were pretty damn good for cable that first episode, but quickly came back down to reality once folks realized…

Dark Horse (DVD)

The years have done their best to temper the controversial story teller in Todd Solondz. The writer/director’s 1995 debut Welcome to the Dollhouse and his pitch dark follow up Happiness, made him a critics’ favorite and the go-to filmmaker to chronicle white suburbia’s seediness.   His latest, Dark Horse, still finds him mining suburbia for quirky leads and plot lines, but he has stripped away a lot of the shock…

Heavyweights (Blu-Ray)

Heavyweights is one of those modern classic comedies that deserves to be seen as being on the same level as Airplane or Animal House. The Blu-Ray edition of the film looks to introduce the film to an entirely different audience. For those that have not seen Heavyweights, the film surrounds a camp for larger children and the rift between the original owners and Tony Perkins (Ben Stiller). The film…

Stray Cats – Live at Montreux 1981 (DVD)

The folks at the Montreux Jazz Festival have been cleaning out the faults lately, reaching up to the high shelves and releasing decades old performances on DVD. The latest, and one of the most impressive, is a Stray Cats set from 1981. The 15-song long DVD set was recorded just months after the Long Island Rockabilly trio released their debut…

Gabriel Iglesias Presents Stand-Up Revolution Season 2 (DVD Set)

Stand-Up Revolution Season 2 is a greatest hits compilation of the strongest riffs from the show. Viewers will be able to watch up and coming comedians as they continue to refine their craft. The show does a great job in providing the ability to be on a big stage without having to have enough material to fill an entire comedy special. Stand-Up Revolution is a show that could easily…

Schoolgirl Report Volume #8 What Parents Must Never Know (DVD)

Kudos to Impulse for digging What Parents Must Never Know out of decades of obscurity. Puppa Armbuster, Sandra Atia, Rolf Castell, and WolfAckva all star in What Parents Must Never Know. The video quality of this title is incredibly sharp, while the original German language of the film can be enjoyed without English subtitles (which have been revamped on their own). The different vignettes do not contain too much…

Being in the World (DVD)

Written philosophical tracts are dry. I feel that Being in the World, directed by Tao Ruspoli, will do more for the discussion of philosophy (and in particular, the branch of philosophy influenced by Martin Heidegger) than hundreds of years of treatises have. The title does not look to make the discussion of life and being more pedestrian, but to inspire viewers to want to read through dusty tomes and ponder…

Casanova’s Love Letters (DVD)

Casanova’s Love Letters is a 2005 release, and it looks to provide a new generation of viewers with a compelling retelling of the exploits of continental Europe’s most famous lover. The show did not make the waves that it should have; BFS has polished it up and has made it available for a considerably wider audience. The story showcases the intrigue of Casanova’s life (played here by Patrick Bergin of…

Food Information

There are a number of different articles that look to try to describe the health benefits of curded cheeses, but I feel that food for fort: on pepper grinders and curd cheese is one of the few that gets into a proper amount of detail. The writing style is such that the benefits of these cheeses are easily described, without going and being overally preachy or ill-informed.

Bush Christmas (DVD)

VCI Entertainment have made available Bush Christmas, a 1947 classic in Australian cinema. The story is touching; a group of children lose their horse after talking to a stranger. The resulting action in which they find themselves is compelling, while the colorful characters that they meet along the way are colorful. While Chips Rafferty is the best known name in Bush Christmas, it seems that the whole cast and crew…

Piano Lessons

Piano Lessons San Francisco are hard to get for a proper price. There is no lack to the sheer amount of individuals that require piano lessons, but it seems as if most of the teachers have an extremely busy schedule. Rather than go and have some form of advance system that would assign individuals to students, it just seems as if teachers will go and set up their own schedules.…

Winter Events

There are a number of different Seattle Upcoming Events that would be of prime interest to attend. There are a number of art galleries, restaurants and museums providing piano recitals and orchestral performances. As the weather gets colder, it seems like that there nothing to do. I believe that taking a weekday to see some talented musicians play through the classics is absolutely sublime. As long as they are well…

The Snorks – The Complete First Season (DVD Set)

I always thought that The Snorks were one of the strongest kids shows of the eighties, and that this cartoon never got the love that it truly deserved. The video quality of the episodes captured here is extremely sharp; I would contend that the transfer is miles above what individuals would have seen during its original air date. The audio is sharp, ensuring that viewers can have an immersive…

Entourage: The Complete Series (DVD Set)

It’s almost shocking to think that HBO could take a show about a group of truly unlikeable douche bags and make it so thoroughly compelling. All eight season (96 episodes!) of one of the ultimate Hollywood insider shows is finally available in one massive set.   Not to give too much away, but rising movie star Vince (Adrian Grenier) and his hanger-on buddies “from the neighborhood”  all manage to…

The Slut (DVD)

The Slut (2011, Israel) is a vital film in terms of philosophy regarding sex workers. What constitutes prostitution and when is it a permissible life decision? What role do government-played rules and laws play in the lives of remote farmers and citizens? Hagar Ben-Asher is Tamar, a mother that is forced to eke out a living and offer herself as payment for those tasks which she is unable to…
